112th Illinois Infantry

William C. Lopeman was in the Civil War. He enlisted on 12 Aug 1862 as a Pvt. and was mustered into Co. B, 112th Ill. Inf. His home was Osceola, Ill. He was mustered out on 20 June 1865 at Greensboro, NC.

Robert was wounded in action at Flat Creek Jan 26, 1864. Died of his wounds Feb 24, 1864, per Knoxville National Cemetary.

John served with his two sons, Charles and Solomon. The later enlisted later. Thompson's Regimental history indicates that Charles spent some time as a prisioner at ANdersonville - before it got bad. If you need info, I have the regimental history, a book by Thompson (the adjutant I believe).

James was my great-grandfather. He enlisted from Bradford in September 1862, and served until mustering out of the regiment at the end of the war. My uncle said that he was captured and escaped from Andersonville, but I find no evidence or record of that.

Enlisted 22 August 1862. Severely WIA 14 May 1864 at Resaca GA during Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. Discharged June 1865 at Greensboro NC and paid $6 to keep his rifle and bayonet.

The book 'History of the 112th Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry, in the great War of the Rebellion, 1862-1865' (published 1885) - Chapter XII (Killed and Wounded) lists Martin R. Lowry of Company D as severely wounded (pg 142) - Chapter XXVII (Roster of Company D) lists Private Martin R Lowry as severely wounded in action at Knoxville, Tenn on Nov 18, 1863 and transferred by reason of wounds. Enlists in the 112th Illinois Infantry Company E on Aug. 12, 1862. He sees considerable action. On March 23, 1863 he was recovering from an illness in a Regimental hospital at Danville, KY when the entire hospital was taken prisoner. He was paroled and exchanged. He was wounded in the hand at Resaca, Georgia on May 14th 1864. Honorably discharged on Jan 4th 1865 at Jefferson Barracks, St Louis Mo.

Peter Swords died 16 Oct 1866 as a result of disease contracted while serving with his unit in the North Carolina swamps.

Assigned as Pvt March 28, 1864; Transferred to Illinois 65th Reg. Company F in 1865. Discharged in Greensboro, NC later in 1865.

Abner Norman is my Great Grandfather. He was wounded November 18, 1863 while defending Knoxville, TN. He was shot in the mouth. After recovering from his wounds he returned to duty. After the war, he became a preacher and was well respected by the community. He married my Great Grandmother Mary in 1900. She was almost sixteen years old. He was about seventy. Grandmother Nellie had fond memories of her father. He loved to sing and beautified his yard with flowers.

He was Company commander for Company H. Severly wounded at Utoy Creek near Atlanta. I have extensive information on his genealogy. But do not know his parents for certain.
