119th Illinois Infantry

Doctor George A Byrns 1829-1910 born in Ohio. A teacher & a graduate of Rush Medical School in Chicago. He entered the 119th Ill Inf from Cooperstown Ill 14, Nov 1862 at age 33 & mustered out 26 Aug. 1865 Mobile AL.

Enlisted as a Private on 2 August 1862. Enlisted in Company B, 119th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 7 October 1862. Died on 11 April 1865 at New Orleans, LA. Buried at Chalmette National Historical Park.

He is my direct ancestor. He survived the war but never fully recovered from his injuries. I have documents concerning his service. Would LOVE to have a picture.

Benjamin Franklin Phillips was married to Mary Ann Bllingsley. He returned home ( Schuyler County Illinois) after the Civil War. From my understanding the four years in the war did damage to his overall health. He would die by 1870.Benjamin Franklin Phillips was my great- great grandfather

My 2nd great grandfather Francis S Soden served in the Illinois 119th Volunteer Infantry Company C. He enlisted at age 16 in Aug 1861 and served until June 1865. He received wounds that hospitalized him for three months then was returned to duty. He participated in 10 engagements.

Francis was born 25 Sept. 1822 the son of Robert Louis Henry and Roxanna Howard Henry He mustered in 7 Oct 1862 at Quincy Ill age 40 promoted to Corporal then Trans to VRC 28 Jan 1865

Hiram born 27 May 1838 in Brown County Ill, the son of Orris Martin Henry and Eliza Emrick Henry m 1859 to Sarah Putman He died 13 Dec, 1906 and is buried in the Cooperstown Cemetary in Brown County Ill. Hiram joined 25th of July 1862 in Cooperstown at age 23 and mustered in at Quincy Ill. 7 Oct 1862. He was promoted Captain and mustered out in 1965

Hiram was born in Brown County Ill. The son of Asher Francis Henry and Levina Barker Henry He mustered out 26 Aug, 1865 & was a brother-in-law of Dr. George A. Byrns Co Q 119th Ill Inf

Christopher Wilson died January 1863 of disease at Benton Barracks, Missouri, after serving at Jackson, Tennessee. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. He was born in Ohio in 1822, married Margaret (Peggy) Darby in Marion County, Indiana, December 22, 1849. They had two children: Matilda, born in Illinois October 12, 1850, and Nathan Perry Jed, born in LaGrange, Illinois, September 1, 1857. I am a descendant of Nathan and his wife, Amelia Jane Long Wilson, whose daughter was my mother, Lilly Wilson Dalton.

Enlistment papers indicates he was born in Jefferson County, TN, 15 Sep 1840. Enlisted from Brown County, IL 1862, Mustered in: October 7, 1862 at Quincy, IL. by Lieutenant Knox, Mustered out: August 26, 1865, Mobile, Alabama by Captain Howell. Married Deborah Ann Blackburn, 16 Sep 1874, in Hillsboro, Montgomery, IL. Daughter of, Jabez Blackburn and Mary Ann Smith. Died May 26, 1883, in Hillsboro, Montgomery, IL.

James is my maternal GG Grandfather. I am most interested in the Pleasant Hill, LA battle during the Red River Campaign.

This was my GG Grandfather. He enlisted at age 18 in 1861 and was mustered out in 1865.
