David James Hoyt lived in Alexandria LA Married to Natalie Franklin. David J Hoyt came down from Maugerville New Brunswick Canada to fight in Mexican War.He enlisted in Civil War as Private. He was in battle with Union soldiers at Cotille Bayou.He was captured March 28 1864 and dragged in chains down to New Orleans Union prison. He apparently was wounded and died in Union Prison in New Orleans on April 30 1864. Was buried in NO in a cemetery that is now under Canal Street -- do not know if David J Hoyt's remains were removed to another cemetery before the Canal Street construction.
