5th Louisiana Cavalry

Upon redesignation of the 13th partisan rangers to the 5th Cavalry, the rank of major having been previously enjoyed by Richard Capers, he was promoted to Colonel and served as such til war's end.

Pvt. William Henry T Taylor, 5th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment Co - E. He was my 2nd great grandfather. he died in Oct 1870 in Veterans Hospital, Pineville, Rapides Parrish, Louisiana.

On roll for Jan. to April 30, 1863 in the 13th Battalion La. Partisan Rangers-Co.D. (This was the forerunner of the 5th La. Cavalry). He enlisted from Arcadia on Jan.12 1863. His name appears on roll of prisoners of war, surrendered at New orleans, La. May 26,1865 paroled at Monroe, La. June 12 1865. At that time he was in the Co. I, 5th Reg't La. Cavalry, C.S,A. His residence was Bienville Parish,La., where he returned after the war. He died 18 Sep 1883.
