He was my Great Great Grandfather. He fought at the battle of Chickasaw Bluffs and was captured and paroled at Vicksburg, Ms. He was exchanged at Red River Landing Oct 23, 1864.

I have a lot of genealogy on this family. He died in Flatwoods, La. After being shot by Plez Beebee ca. 1902.

Seneca Pace lived in Pace Community North of Natchitoches, LA. His father was Seneca R. Pace. He had one son Robert Roy Pace, whom had three children. Robert Roy Pace, Lloyd R. Pace and Josephine-Maudie Pace(My Mother). My mother is a direct decedent or the Pace clan. I have no idea where the Pace's originated form. They ether came out of Mississippi or South Carolina. I have no documentation for Seneca Pace or brothers.

William joined at New Orleans on 7 April 1862 Co G Prudhomme Guard's. Thru consolidation, it became the 26th Regiment. He was Captured at Vicksburg on the day it fell on 4 July 1864. He was exchanged at Shrevesport La on 29 March 1864. He rejoined his unit and reenterd the fight. His unit was surrendered at New Orleans on 26 May 1865. He was paroled after swallowing the yellow dog yet again on 9 June 1865 at Natchitoches. He is the cousin of my 3 cousin 3 times removed. Martha Julia Ann Byrd b. 1829 in Amite, Mississippi

His family never knew what happened to him, only from word of mouth that he had died or where the body was taken. My mother promised his sister Mellina Blanchard she would find out. They are gone and I took the search. A confederate genology tole me about the measles.

Great Grandpa Willaim Buford enlisted on March 21, 1862, and was assigned to the newly formed 26th Infantry of Company H. His parish of enlistment was Terrebonne. From what I can find, his company served at both battles of Vicksburg where, like so many other Louisiana natives, was captured on July 4th 1863 and paroled. So far, this is all I have been able to find out from the internet.

Pvt. Melancon fought in the Siege of Vicksburg and was wounded in the knee by a bullet or piece of shell while detailed to pick up wounded on the field. He was in the hospital when Vicksburg surrendered. Upon being paroled, he was still unable to walk, and was transported by boat to Donaldsonville, and then down Bayou Lafourche to Thibodaux by skiff.
