Seitz, John - arrived Dec 20, 1851; resident of IL for 14 yrs.; served in civil war Co F, 17th Missori Inf from Aug 27, 1861 to Sept 26, 1864; Discharged Soldiers Declaration & Final Oath dated Apr. 17, 1865.
This confirms my belief that John Seitz is same as
Co E 17th Missouri Infantry SOS IL IRADS provided Naturalization papers. Place of birth not indicated. However declares Bavaria as German State.
Beleived born Oppau Bavaria.

Killed at the Battle of Whitney's Lane, Searcy's Landing Arkansas on May 19, 1862. Grand Army of the Rupublic Post #273 in Perryville,MO named in his honor.

Enlisted with the as a private on 8/13/1861, in Company E. Mustered in 9/26/1861. Died in battle at Taylor Ridge on 11/27/1863. He was a 1st lieutenant in Company H when he passed. He also served in Companies F and G.

This is my great great grandfather on my mothers side. He served as a baker in the service then homesteaded to the Dakota Territory in 1880 and was one of the first bakers in Rapid City SD. Born 6-10-1843 and died 10-18-1918.
