My great-great grandfather was John C. Miller, born in Prussia about 1832 (original name probably Müller or Meuller), immigrated about 1857, settled in St. Joseph, MO. Served as a private in the 13th/25th Missouri Volunteer Infantry, then later was an 'articifer' in the 1st Missouri Engineers. He was wounded at Shiloh, and died in 1887 in St. Joseph, partially from the debilitating effects of having contracted malaria during the war. His widow applied for and received a widow's pension until her death in 1916.

Daniel Corneius Phillips, (Born February 6, 1827, He married November 30, 1852 to Elizabeth Ann Markham at Warrensburg, Missouri) the father of Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Philips. Phillips was born on February 6, 1827 in Johnson County, Missouri. He grew to manhood in the Warrensburg area and married Elizabeth Ann Markham (Born 5 Nov. 1827. Died 30 Jan 1912) at Warrensburg, Johnson County, Missouri. Burial 1 Feb. 1912 at Liberty Cemetery, Johnson County, Missouri. Church Mt. Moriah C.P. Church. Elizabeth Ann Markham's father was Reuben A. Marcum born about 1800. Mother was Elizabeth Jane Dabney born 7 Oct. 1801 the second daughter of Rubin and Betsy Dabney on November 30, 1852 in Warrensburg, Missouri. At the outbreak of the Civil War Daniel Corneius Phillips enrolled in the Federal Army on November 17, 1862 and served with the 25th Regiment Enrolled Missouri Militia, Company 'B'. On July 27, 1864 he was ordered into active service with the 40th Regiment Enrolled Missouri Militia, Company 'M'.

Looking to see if he was ever captured and where he came from.

David Lincoln enlisted at Oregon, Missouri January 1862. He is a second cousin to President Lincoln. He died at the Battle of Shiloh.

Any available information about Stephan Brown would be appreciated. The 25th had a close call early in the morning of the first day at Shiloh, but Stephen apparently was not captured. Born in NY in 1828 and died in Bath, Mason County, IL, 1917. His tombstone states that he was in Co. A of the 25th MO, but other records state it was Co. G. My real interest is based on the fact that his brother-in-law, my great great grandfather, Pvt. Henry Beadle (Co. C, 12th Iowa) was captured at Shiloh and died a prisoner at Macon, GA.

John was in the Battle of Shiloh, Tenn. The 25th Missouri was part of General Prentiss' 6th Division, Army of the Tennesee. Colonel Peabody was Commanding the 25th and died in battle there, Company 'H' was part of the Reconnoitering party sent out on patrol @ 0200 in the early morning to look for Confederate Troops and they found more than that as they were ambushed by Confederates. The uproar and shooting of muskets alerted all the Federal forces who may have been caught in their tents asleep. John developed a 'drop foot' and was discharged and he later enlisted in the 12th Missouri Cavalry and served out the war, being Discharged 9 April 1866.
