39th Missouri Infantry

Charles G. Holme was 1st lieutenant and regimental quartermaster. Mustered in August 1864 and mustered out July 1865. He was injured in a fall from his horse at Mexico, Audrain Co, MO, on about October 1, 1864. The injury grew worse. He had surgery in Philadelphia and died from tetanus on June 9, 1867. This information comes from his widow's and minor children's claim for pension, held at the National Archives in Washington D.C.

Please add my husbands 3rd great grandfather Willard Parker Stockton. Our grandson Aaron Michael last week joined the Marines here in California. Upon doing family research and obtaining a picture of Willard, we were amazed how much Aaron resembles him. Aaron will be graduating from high school and go directly to Camp Penelton near San Diego. The same place his grandfather served in California. I am doing this book about Willard for Aaron. Thanks Dee

My great-grandfather was James Coy. He was born in Hodgenville, KY. His parents moved to Missouri when he was about 9 years old. James was born in 1846 and died in 1919. He was a member of the GAR...Dix post #22. He served from 1864-1865 with company B of the 39th Missouri Infantry.

My great great grandfather John J. Truslow mustered in August 25th, 1864 at the age of 17 in Hannibal, MO and mustered out March 16th, 1865 in St. Louis, MO.

Born 2 Feb 1846 in LaBelle, MO. Enlisted in the 39th Missouri Infantry (USA) 28 Aug 1864 in Hannibal, MO; mustered in to active duty 8 Sep 1864, under the command of CPT Adam Theiss. Survived the Battle of Centralia on 27 Sep 1864, in which 123 inexperienced Union troops under the command of Major A.V.E. Johnston were killed by 'Bloody Bill Anderson's' band of Confederate guerillas, whose unit included the later-famous outlaws Jesse and Frank James. Vastly outnumbered and outgunned, many of the Union troops were systematically executed and their bodies mutilated; only a few Union soldiers escaped. Co H mustered out 19 July 1865, and Webber returned to farming in Reddish (Lewis Co) MO. Samuel later moved to Colorado where he married Estella ('Stella') C. Nurnberg in Glenwood, CO, on 25 Apr 1893. Samuel and Stella had 8 kids, one of whom was my paternal grandmother, Frances Sylvia Webber Down. Samuel moved to San Diego in his later years, where he and Stella occupied a cottage near the corner of Van Dyke and Wightman Streets. Samuel died at home on 21 Jan 1927. He is buried in the Odd Fellows section of Mount Hope Cemetery in San Diego. RIP Samuel, and thank you for your service! - your great granddaughter, Sally Marie Down, Staff Sergeant, US Army
