Subject: John. F. Boyd private in Co. B-, 1st North Carolina On the 14th Inst., at the General Foster Hospital,John. F. Boyd, formerly of Washington. N. C , aged 25 years. Mr. Boyd was a private in Co. B-, 1st North Carolina Regiment of Volunteers. He was wounded in the knee at the battle which took place on the 6th Sept. last between our forces and the rebels at that place. The wound,which finally resulted in his death, was examined by three eminient surgeons and was thought at the time to be so comparatively trifling that he would very soon recover from its effects. But they were never able to find the ball notwithstanding repeated and thorough examinations the presence of which kept up such continued irritation as to prevent the wound from healing, until at length he yielded to the inevitable fiat of death. The long--and tedious suffering of this faithful soldier, was borne with Christian fortitude and commendable patience, and he died in the full hope of blessed immortality. - A.
