Adam and his brother Henry H Heckert both join up early in the war. They left Calhoun County with Major George Downs and the Moccasin Rangers. The company became part of the 3rd Va State line On April 2 1862. March 1,1863 they became part of the 19th Va Cav. Some in my family say Adam was killed at Droop Mountain Nov 6,1863.

Born July 5, 1844 in Pendleton County, Virginia. He was enlisted in Company B, 19th Va. cavalry; March 1st 1864 in Highland County by Capt. J.S. Sprigg for 3 years. Clothing issued 6/17/64 and 7/10/64. Present 9/1/64 - 10/31/64. $100 enlistment bounty due. Paroled May 11th, 1865 at Staunton, Va. Age 18, height 5'8", Light complexion, Light hair, and blue eyes. Post-war miller and resident of McDowell, Virginia. "McDowell's enterprising miller, Mr. Abbott Armstrong, has been busy all summer repairing his mill and will be ready for business this week." Highland Recorder, October 30, 1908. Residing with Son Allen Lunty in the 1920 census. Died November 7, 1921 in Highland County, Virginia. Buried in McDowell Cemetery, McDowell, Highland County, Virginia. His obituary was published in The Highland Recorder, vol 43, no. 49. p3 along with a brief column: "Nov. 15, 1921 Abbot L. Armstrong, one of the few remaining Confederate veterans, passed away on Sunday evening at 7 o’clock. He was born July 5, 1844, and was 77 years, 4 months and eight days. He belonged to Co. B. 19th cavalry regiment—Rosser’s Brigade Stuart’s Division. He married Miss Martha Siron, who died about seven years ago, and to this union were born six children. Pearl, who died several years ago, Joe, who lives in Washington, Lurty with whom he made his home, Mrs. WH Ervine of Calgary, Canada, Mrs. Orion Bradshaw and Mrs. Howard Siron, the last four named being with him in his last illness. » A number of years ago he united with the Presbyterian church at Bethlehem. His funeral services were conducted at the McKendree church by Rev. L. M. Moffett. The following friends and neighbors were pall Messrs Jos. Hiner, Jared Hiner, Clement Armstrong, Roy Armstrong, Gideon and Henry Propst. He is survived by three brothers, Thos., Arthur and John A. Armstrong and four sisters, Mrs. French, Mrs. Wm. Stuart, Mrs. Oliver Hiner and Mrs. Nell Armstrong. Abbot L. Armstrong Dead Another of Highlands aged citizens and Confederate veterans passed away Sunday night in the person of Abbot L. Armstrong, death claiming him at the home of his son, Lurty Armstrong near McDowell, Deceased was a son of the late Allen Armstrong, was 76 years of age, and, as stated above was a veteran of the Civil war. Opposite his name in the roster of Highland soldiers we find the following entry, which is all that the biographer has to guide him in giving the war record of these aged veterans as they pass away, one by one (52-5)-H 19 Cav. Captured Melvern. Mr. Armstrong had been in declining health for some time, visiting an eastern hospital recently in hope of obtaining relief. His malady, however, proved to be a fatal one, and taking his bed on his return he never got up again. Deceased was a kind and hospitable gentleman and will be missed in his community. He is survived by several of his children, some of whom reside in the West."

Warwick enlisted on March 13, 1863 and captured on July 29th 1863 by home guard in Nicholas county (WV). Died as POW December 3rd 1864 at Rock Island camp in Illinois.

He was listed as C.C. Hoke on his Muster Roll.

There are many men by the name 'Henry' within the Hoke Family Tree. Not sure what this Henry's middle name was.

This relative also served in the 17th Virgina Calvary as a Private.

David Hamilton Cutlip was my 3rd Great Grandfather.

Following Civil War moved to Ft Worth Texas.
