He was a VMI graduate. He began as Major in 1861, was promoted to Lt. Col. and Col., regimental commander. He was killed on 30 May at Totopotomy Creek in Hanover County near Bethesda Church. The Confederate Congress approved his (posthumous) promotion to Brigadier General on 31 May 1964. His brother was William Rufus Terrill, who was a West Point graduate, served as a Brigadier General in then Union Army and was killed in battle at Perryville, Kentucky.

Of Culpeper, VA. On his tombstone it reads, 'A Servant of Christ - A Soldier of the Confederacy - A Son of Virginia.'

Wounded on February 3, 1865 near Petersburg, VA when a miniball struck him in the left wrist crushing his bone and ligaments, seriously injuring his hand.

Brandy Rifles, enlisted April 16, 1862. Born in 1828, Culpeper, VA. Married Ann W. Dempsey, Dec. 24, 1850. Ann's aunt, Katherine Dempsey was the 'Widow Tapp' of 'Widow Tapp's Farm' referenced in the Battle of the Wilderness. Died of 'chronick' dysentary upon return home in 1865. Regiment continued fighting two months after Appomattox where he faced in battle his future grandson's father-in-law.

Joseph Tyson, brn 1817 in Stafford County, VA, was captured at Gettysburg and sent to Fort Delaware. He died in Culpeper County, VA aft 1890. He married and had one daughter, Mary E. Tyson, who died in the early 1980s.

Thomas Eubank was wounded at Antietam (Sharpsburg) and again at Cedar Creek. After his second wounding, he served as mail courier for the unit.

CSA records show John's last name as indicated in this submission. The correct spelling is of German origin. The spelling should have been Pfeiffer. Private 'Fifer' enlisted in Winchester VA, discharged at, or, following Appomatox, settling in Lynchburg VA. He is buried in Lynchburg in a family plot in the same cemetery as Jubal Early.

Benjamin M. Haines - from Slanesville, VA (WV) was in the 13th until late 1863 - moved to 18th VA Cavalry through the end of the war. There is mention in several publications indicating he may have also served in the Confederate Signal Corp. Paroled at Staunton, VA May 1865. Farmer - Born 2/7/1840 Died 5/28/1918, buried in Salem Church Cemetery, Slanesville, WV. His headstone is marked with the 13th Co. K for unknown reasons - a mistake by his wife Nancy - or maybe he was in K for a short period - unknown.
