Captured when wounded at Gettysburg, PA and died in Pt Lookout, MD.

My great great grandfather was Victor Emanuel Peter Irola. (Iroler was used later in life due to the Va. pronunciation) He married Emily Jane Cloud. He received an annual Confederate pension which was last paid ($50) in 1916. His dates are 1854/56-1917. He is buried at Gladesboro Lutheran Church Cemetery in Carroll County, Virginia. He had six children including Elizabeth Catherine 1866-1903 who married my great grandfather Albert Davis Cassell 1861-1932.

William Jennings is my great-great-great grandfather and was CO of C Company until his death at the Battle of Williamsburg. I have one picture of him and I am in possession of his sword, which is the sword that killed him. Just started finding out more information about the 24th Infantry Division just lately.

Enlisted on July 25 1861 in Carroll County Va. Originally enlisted with Company C 29th Virginia Infantry (left without permission to join the 24th). Was taken prisoner on April 1 1865 and released on June 15 1865. Swore his allegiance at Point Lookout Md. prior to his release.

William served in Company C 24th VA, May 1, 1861, enlisted at Lynchburg, VA. Big battle was fought at Williamsburg, Va on May 5, 1862 and William was wounded in action and captured by the union army. He was taken to a federal hospital at Fort Monroe where William died July 11, 1862, 9 weeks after the battle. Brother to John Wesley Strickland of the Co. G, 22nd VA Cavalry.

My great great grandfather was a private in 24th VA Company D. He was in the Robert E. Lee Soldiers Home in Richmond, VA for a while. Happy to correspond with others interested in this unit, especially this company.

pvt.Edward Carter was in the 24th VIRGINIA INFANTRY F COMPANY they were called 'THE NEW RIVER RIFLES' He was captured at the Battle of South Mountain in 1862. He lived in Giles County Va. in the area now called Pembroke. Edward Carter was born in Giles County VA. in 1822, Died 1897 Wife name was Sarah she was born in 1848 , died in 1899

Born about 1826 in Virginia to Captain Jabez Leftwich, Jr. (b. 1792 in Bedford, Virginia) and Martha Jones Early (b. about 1795 in Amelia, Virginia). Died at 1st Manassas. ----- M382 roll 33 (2nd Cousin 5 times removed)

I know my ancestor was in Company F, 24th VA regiment and according to pay slips was 'present' during June and July of 1863. I do not know for certain that he was at Gettysburg although I believe his regiment was. Would appreciate any help. Thank you

David M. Alvis was my 3rd cousin. He fought with the 24th VA Infantry in many campaigns, was wounded at Gettysburg while serving in Picketts Division and taken prisoner around 1-3 July 1863. He was listed on the POW roll at DeCamp General Hospital, Davids Island NY and was later released. He was later assigned to light duty in 1864 r/t disability from gunshot wound sustained at Gettysburg. He was discharged in June 1865. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Princeton WV.

Isaac was my g-great uncle, a brother to my great grandfather, John Harrison Alvis. He was from Mercer Co. VA (now WV). He enlisted in Lynchburg VA on June 2, 1861. He was killed during the Battle of Williamsburg on May 5, 1862. I am trying to find out where he is buried. Although West Virginia was created officially as a 'Union' state in 1863, many of its people continued to view themselves as Virginians and remained loyal to Virginia and the South. The sacrifices of the Confederate soldiers that were from the land that became West Virginia have been forgotten for too long and deserve to be told.

Joseph H Hambrick was mustered into service on June 2 1861 at Lynchburg. On Jan 1862 he had just returned from being sick at the hospital in Richmond, VA. He was later Jan 1863 due to surgeons note. (He was born about 1841 in Virginia and died August 1886 in Mercer County, WV)

From Henry County, Virginia. Spent time at Point Lookout Maryland (union prison), before being released. After the war lived in Martinsville, Virginia and was a successful tobacco autioneer.

Brother of John Harrison Draper (42nd VA), William Meredith Draper, Peter Davis Draper and Thomas Jefferson Draper all of the 24th VA. Relationship: Cousin

Enlisted as a Private on 17 March 1862 in Henry Co, VA at the age of 30; enlisted in Company H 24th Infantry Regiment Virginia on 17 March 1862; missing on 5 May 1862 at Williamsburg, VA, later confirmed killed in action. LOOKING TO FIND WHERE HE IS BURIED. AFTER BEING KILLED IN THE BATTLE OF DREWRYS BLUFF.MAY 1864 HE IS THE ONLY BROTHER MY GRANDFATHER HAD AND HIS BODY WAS NOT RETURNED TO THE FAMILY... HE WAS WOUNDED ON MAY 16 AND DIED ON MAY 18TH.

My ancestor was a private in Co. I and served for the entirety of the war. He was wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines. I have a degueretype of him in his Confederate uniform. He was buried in Rockingham County, NC in 1909.

Harden E. Spencer is my great-great-grandfather. He was born May 16, 1824 in Patrick County, Virginia and died May 16, 1864 at Drewry's Bluff, outside of Richmond. His body was not returned to the family and we do not know where he is buried, although there is a memorial CSA stone in the family cemetery in Patrick County. His wife, Nancy S. Reynolds Spencer, was left with 8 children.
