James Thomas, my great grandfather, fought with the 32nd. He was married after the war at the chapel, Fort Monroe. I have the original marriage certificate.

Great Grand Father.. Enlisted as Private in 1961... Captured Farmville, Cumberland, Virginia, April 6, 1865.. by Union Forces.. Discharged at war's end as Sgt. Spent time in hospital in Richmond Va. with leg wound.

He was my Great Great Grandfather had two brothers that served David T Lee 15th Calvary Va. Co. D, George T Lee 30th Va. Infantry Co. K. All three went in and all three came home.

James Samuel Morris was my great-great grandfather. James served in the 32nd Virginia Infantry, 1st Company H (Hankins Battery), James City Artillery. He died in 1862 while on active duty.He was the husband of Frances Jane Harrell Morris. He left her a widow and she later married Richard C. Lawson.

He enlisted in May 1963 when this company was originally formed. He was sent to the hospital in Farmville, VA where he died 8 Oct 1963. Probably buried at the Confederate Cemetery there.

Company A - Smith's Battery. Smith's Battery [also called Hampton Artillery or Wahsington Artillery, Virginia Volunteers] was organized in May, 1861, with men from Elizabeth City County. It was assigned to the 1st Regiment Virginia Artillery, but served as an independent company. The battery was stationed at Ship Point on the Poquosin River, then at Yorktown. During June, 1862, it was ordered to disband and the men transferred to other Virginia units. Captain Charles L. Smith was in command. Was mustered into 1st Company K, 32 Virginia Infantry, June 1861. Captain Willis J. Dance's Company - Light Artillery. He is buried in the Guy Family Cemetery which is woods at the end of Eastlawn Drive in Fox Hill, Virginia.
