15th Alabama Cavalry

Bryan Williams, I'm sorry, but I couldn't find the correct Unit to add my GGreatUncle's name, but he was the older brother of my GGGrandpa, Hugh Caswell Richbourg. James S. Richbourg was born Dec. 24th, 1836 & died Nov. 16th,1923, buried at Brushy Creek Church Cemetery, Lenox, Al. Enlisted Dragoons Camp, April 3rd, 1862 by Capt. Boyles, Mounted Volunteers. Later served in Co B, Murphy's Batn. Ala. Calvary. According to CSA Pension application, James Samuel Richbourg enlisted as a Private in Tobins Battery of Artillary, Confederate Calvary, Co 12, 15th Regt. in the year 1861 at Bayou La Batre, Al., was parolled Meridien, Mississippi May 15th, 1865.

J.W. Oliver was the brother-in-law to my GGGrandpa Hugh Caswell Richbourg and his brother, James Samuel Richbourg. He signed up for service in Stockton, Al. as a Volunteer in Co C 15th Regt. Was honorable discharged on May 9, 1865. He is also buried at Brushy Creek Methodist Church Cemetery in Lenox, Alabama, along side of his wife, GGreat-Aunt Mary Jane Richbourg and my GGreat Uncle, James Samuel Richbourg.

Hugh Caswell Richburg was injured in the battle at Lovett's Creek, in Monroe County, Alabama when he was shot in the left leg, just below the knee & fell off his horse. He was run over by horses, breaking his right ankle and bones in his right hand. He recovered and return to his unit to serve till the end of the war. He was discharged at Claiborne, Ala. He had an older brother & a brother in law who also served the South, James Samuel Richburg and James Wilson Oliver...CSA.

My husband's GGreat-Grandpa signed up on April 15th 1861 in Stockton, Al. under Capt. T.C. Barlow. He served along side of my GGGrandpa, Hugh Caswell Richbourg and his brother-in-law, John Wesley Oliver. Hugh's older brother, James Samuel Richbourg also served the South as a Private in Tobin's Battery of Artillary, Confederate Calvary, Co.12, 15th Regt. Signed up in 1861 in Bayou LaBatre, Al. We are very PROUD of our ancestors!!!

D.H. McDugald (modern McDougald sp) was enlisted in Co E, 15th AL Cavalry Bn on May 8, 1862 at Greenville, AL by Capt B.J.West. He brought his own horse valued at $250.00. He became part of Co E, 56th AL Cav when the 15 AL CAV Bn was merged with the 13th AL Cav Bn to become the 56th AL Cav Regt. The 15th AL Bn was also called the 1st AL Cav Bn and both battalions had the designation of Partisian Rangers in their unit designation as did the 56th AL Cav Regt.

H.K. McDugald (modern sp McDougald) was enlisted in Co E, 15th AL Cavalry Bn on May 8, 1862 at Greenville, AL by Capt B.J.West. He brought his own horse valued at $225.00. The 15th AL Bn was also called the 1st AL Partisian Ranger Bn. The records indicate that he was accepted as a substitue for James M.McDugald (his brother). H.K. became a member of Co E, 56th AL Cav Regt in May, 1863 and was detacted for duty to the Buckner Artillery Battery on June 9, 1863 by order of Col William Boyles.

James M.McDugald (modern sp McDougald) enlisted in Co E, 15th Al Cav Bn also known as the 1st Al Partisian Ranger Bn on May 8, 1862 at Greenville, AL. Capt B.J West was the enlisting officer. His brother, Hugh K.McDugald, took his place as a substitue possibly in August 1862.
