James M. Pankey has but one card on file in the archives. Sad to say it is the only clue to his service. He apparently died during the war. A claim for settlement was filed by his wife/widow Frances E Pankey on 24 Dec. 1862. His rank nor company are listed.

William Cole Smith enlisted in the Army of the Confederate States on August 7, 1861, at Auburn, AL. He was a private in Company 'A', 14th Alabama Infantry Regiment, serving under Capt. W. D. Harrington. T. J. Judge was the Colonel of the 14th Regiment. He served for 3 years and 9 months and was wounded (shell shock) at Petersburg, VA in 1864, and surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia, with Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, and was paroled on April 10, 1865.

James Thomas Willoughby, Sr., died 6 September 1862 from disease contracted while serving as a private in Company D of the 14th Regiment of the Alabama Volunteers.

Reason Elliott Lovejoy had a disfigured face from result of a miniball hitting him in Civil War. In 1925 he applied for a Confederate Pension at the age of 83. He was wounded 3 times, and surrendered with General Lee at Appomattox.

Caleb was my lost Greatgreat Grandfather, finally found through YDNA analysis. Caleb Jones, Private, Company I, (Entry 0841) enlisted on February 5, 1862 at Lineville, Talladega, Alabama. He appears on a register of officers and soldiers of the Army of the Confederate States who were killed in battle or died of wounds or disease. Killed on June 27, 1862 at Gaines Mill, [Virginia]. Caleb Jones appears on a register of claims for deceased officers and soldiers from Alabama that was filed on September 5, 1862. Certificate 4046. Claims documents are in the file, which Identifies Lucy Jones as the widow of Caleb Jones. Claim paid to June 27, 1862 as date of death. (National Archives, Individual Confederate Soldier Service Records, M311 Roll 234). I salute him.

Enlistment records show enlistment date as, 6 Sept, 1861. Muster rolls show that he died 'in service' on, 13 Jan, 1862 in Richmond, VA. Buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, VA.

James is my 2nd great-grandfather, who served with the 14th, was wounded during the Seven Days and died in hospital in Richmond on 10 Aug 1862. He rests in Section S Plot 110 of Hollywood CEmetery in Richmond, Virginia.

James H. White enlisted July 29, 1861 at Lineville, Talladega County, Alabama as 4th Sergeant, Company I. Promoted to 1st Sergeant/Orderly Sergeant. Promoted to 2nd Jr. Lieutenant. Wounded on June 30, 1862 at the Battle of Frayser's Farm, Virginia. Wounded on May 6, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia (Right shoulder joint). Issued a Surgeon's Certificate. His name appears on a register of officers that indicates he was Retired Invalid Corps (RIC) on December 22, 1864 (Lost use of right arm). (Source: National Archives, Microfilm M311, Roll 239.) Born January 31, 1839. Died August 7, 1877.
