Enlisted as a 1st Sergeant on 13 March 1862 at the age of 32. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 22 October 1862. Promoted to Captain on 1 July 1863. Surrendered on 9 April 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

Private, Co A, 41st Alabama Infantry. Died in Confederate hospital in Farmville, Virginia.

Hugh was wounded several times. Lost his index and middle finger of left hand. Shot in his calf and in the throat, with bullet lodging next to his jaw bone. Last activity recorded - he was in hospital in Richmond in Sept. of 1864. Died in early 1900s. Buried Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Kennedy, Ala. CSA Veteran's headstone marks grave.

John and Hugh Henderson were brothers. They enlisted together but were separated early in the war.

Wiley Baxter Pollard - Pvt. - Company B Born 18 July 1845 in Pickens Conuty, Alabama Died 22 September 1922 in Prentiss County, Mississippi. Wiley along with three brothers, John R., Latimore M., and Luellen G. joined Company B. Wiley was wounded in the battle of Stone River and on 12 April 1863 he was admitted to the Episcopal Church Hospital, Williamsburg Virginia. After being exchanged 18 April 1863 he was furloughed and later rejoined his unit. He was captured again 3 April 1865 at Amelia Courthouse, Virginia and finally released on 8 July 1865

L. H. Shelton was shot through the left leg at the Battle of Murfreesboro on January 2, 1863; but lived to continue fighting until the war ended with General Lee's surrender.

Military 1864 18 Jun Age: 23 Petersburg, Amelia, Virginia, Diagnosed as ''debilitus'' at C.S.A. Hosp. Petersburg, VA. 18 JUNE 1864 41st. AL. Inf. Reg. Book 18 JUNE 1864. Transfered to Kittrells Hosp. North Carolina, 18 June 1864.

He was enlisted as a private on May 8th 1862 in Tuscaloosa, AL. He quickly moved up in the ranks and became a Sergeant around 1864. He married Mary Elizabeth Miller in 1862 and later married Betty Mustin. He was the son of Barnabas Fair III and Nancy Duckworth.

James was b. in Spartanburg S.C. about 1825 and had moved with his parents' family to DeKalb co. Ala. before 1840 He married Harriet Keener and moved his family to Pickens Co. He and his oldest son William volunteered May 7 1862 and were sent to Tuscaloosa for training. The son, William got sick in camp and died June 29 1862. Though often sick himself, James went through the rest of the war seeing service in Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi and, Virginia. He was paroled at Columbus MS. May 30, 1865. He died abt. 1873 in Cross Co. Ark.

William M., oldest son of James M. and Harriet Keener Hammett was b. about 1846 in DeKalb co. Ala., then moved with his family to Pickens county around 1858. William enlisted with his father in Co. D 41st Ala. on May 7 1862. They were sent to a camp at Tuscaloosa where the regiment was training. While there William contracted some sickness, possibly measles or pneumonia, and died June 29 1862. His body was brought home and is buried in the Arbor Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Reform Alabama.

My relative according to the Alabama State Archives was a PVT in the 41st Alabama mustered in at Tuscaloosa. I know he died in 1864 but I do not know where. The archives have a pension request for his wife Mary A Williams dated Sept of 1864.

Muster roll lists as absent, but was transferred to a different unit. After paroled, resided in Oklahoma until his death. Brother to Joseph Mitchell Beasley and Samuel A. Beasley.

Also listed in muster rolls as 'Josiah M. Beasley'. Enlisted Tuscaloosa County, April 3, 1862,captured at Hatcher's Run, Virginia on March 25, 1865, released from prison at Point Lookout, Maryland on June 9, 1865. Carried mini ball in shoulder until his death. Brother to Gabriel Dillard Beasley and Samuel A. Beasley.

Died in hospital in Knoxville. Brother to Gabriel Dillard Beasley and Joseph Mitchell Beasley.

My late mother's paternal grandfather joined along with 2 brothers, Allen Hamby Freeman and William Freeman, at Fayette, Alabama and after Civil War removed to Pickens Co., Ala., then Chickasaw County, Miss.

He is buried in the Gore Family Cemetery near McShan, Alabama. The family has since changed the spelling of the last name to 'Cowart', crossing the 'D'. A photo of him can be found in the Pickens County History Book. I am his great great grandson. He was the father of my mother's father's mother!

Nathan was killed 31 Dec 1862 at Murfreesboro, Tn. in an area known as Wayne's Hill, now a country club.

Newton Mitchell joined the Confederate Army in 1863. He was wounded in the arm and was captured by the North. His arm was amputated while in a Northern prison. Recaptured by the Confederate Army while still in the hospital, he returned home to Alabama.

He is my great great grandfather. I wonder if there are any pictures of this regiment and individual photos. I do not have any photos of my g g grandfather.

James was born in Kentucky. In 1860 he is in Pickins County, Alabama where he enlisted 10 July 1862, enlisted by Capt. Braddock / Craddock for three years or the war. He has 20 items in his archival file. On 1 August he is assigned to the Quartermaster Corps, detailed as a Waggoner. In Feb 1863 he is hauling commissary stores. Command structure: Hanson's Brigade, Breckinridge's Division, General Archibald Gracie's Brigade. Battles: Murfreesboro, Vicksburg Siege, Jackson. Chickamauga, East Tennessee Campaign, Knoxville, Drewry's Bluff, Dutch Gap, Petersburg Siege, Hatchers Run & Appomattox. His date of death and place of burial is unknown. He was the father-in-law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.
