2nd Arkansas Infantry

His unit conducted mostly guerrilla warfare in northwest Arkansas and provided military escorts to refugees fleeing the state for the relative safety of southwest Missouri. On 1 December 1863, his unit was the target of a Confederate ambush which resulted in the only major skirmish inside Johnson County, Arkansas during the Civil War. There were only two fatalies from this fight, both belonging to Casey's unit. They were George W. Chronister of Hagarville, Arkansas and Lt. Hollingsworth from the state of Kansas.

Great great grandfather; not much known about his service.

Born 1819 in Virginia (per his enlistment paperwork, although some records say Tennessee and others, Kentucky). Enlisted as a Private in Clarksville, Arkansas on 26 Mar 1864 at the age of 46 years. He enlisted at the time of the initial organization of the unit. He was 5 feet, 6 inches tall, had dark complexion, black eyes and black hair. He was by trade a wheelwright. Frederick died on 12 Jan 1865 of chronic diarhea. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Little Rock, AR.

Holbert A. Harris, of Newton County, Arkansas, served with the 2nd Arkansas Infantry (USA) until his death from disease at Lewsiburg, on 28 August 1864.

Not a relative, but ran across his marker in Sehorn Cemetery, Waldron, Scott County, Arkansas, and wanted to add him to his group.

GGGF served in the CSA in 1862 and in the Union Army in 1864.

William Taylor Fox born 1847 Weaverville, Buncombe County North Carolina, son of Adam and Martha Fox. Enlisted 15 Feb 1864 Yellville, Marion County Arkansas. Was in the battle of Jenkins Ferry March 10th 1864 Sent to hospital at Ft. Smith on May 20 1864 died May 27th 1864 age 17 buried at Fort Smith National Cemetery Fort Smith Arkansas Section 5, grave #2444
