Gregory.

Fry, Joseph Private—Enlisted in Co. C, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Monticello, Arkansas, June 10, 1861; wounded in the right eye and left hip and captured at Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, 1862; confined at Fort McHenry, Maryland, until exchanged in October 1862; discharged for disability, June 21, 1863; born in Murray county, Tennessee, c1827; married Cena Bardin in Ashley county, Arkansas, October 11, 1863; listed in Ashley county 1860 census; occupation farmer

Enlisted June 20, 1861 and served until April 9, 1861. Wounded near Charles City Road, Virginia on March 6, 1865; and was listed as ''killed and died of wounds'' an a May 6, 1865 report (obviously in error). He was paroled at the headquarters of the U.S. 16th Army Corp., office of the Provost Marshall, Montgomery, Alabama. (Since his wife since August 26, 1864, at Sandy Ridge, Lowndes County, Alabama, was in that area I assume that when wounded he was given a furlough to recover at his home [his home was in Champognole, Ark., but his wife was living with her family at that time.)

G, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Three Creeks, Arkansas, December 19, 1862; wounded in the right leg and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 2, 1863; confined at Davids Island, New York, until paroled on August 24, 1863; absent without leave, October 12, 1863; dropped from the rolls, August 31, 1864; enlisted in Co. I, 10th Arkansas Cavalry, in Union county, Arkansas, December 5, 1863; captured at Longview, Arkansas, March 29, 1864; confined at Rock Island, Illinois; exchanged at Red River Landing, Louisiana, March 4, 1865.

G, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Three Creeks, Arkansas, June 19, 1861; promoted second corporal; promoted third sergeant, April 14, 1862; wounded in the hand at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 2, 1863; furloughed to Jackson, Mississippi; born in Mississippi, c1839; listed in Union county 1860 census; occupation farmer; brother of Private Samuel M. Lowry.
