John was born in Jacksonport, Jackson Co. Ark Aug 1843. The 1860 census has him at age 19 in Greenbriar, Independence Co. Ark. He enlisted 6 July 1861 at Camp Price near his home at Jacksonport. enlisted by Col Patterson. He served honorably until the end. In December of 1863 he is assigned extra duty as sharpshooter under General Cleburn's command. His description is as follows. Eyes: blue, Hair: auburn, 5ft 8in tall, Farmer, was paid bounty. He died3 April 1905 and was buried at the Old Bethel Cem. in Paragould, Greene Co. Arkansas. He was the husband of my 3rd cousin 4 x removed.

Enlisted in the CSA in Jonesboro, Craighead County, AR on March 11, 1862. He was assigned to 8th Arkansas Infantry Battalion, Company E, under the command of his brother, Captain Joel Gilmore Wood. He was promoted to Company Sergeant. Following the surrender of the battalion at Port Hudson and subsequent parole, Green joined his brother Joel once more and signed up with Comapny A of the 7th Arkansas Cavalry Battalion (Davies' Battalion). Joel was named Captain of Company A and Green appointed sergeant. He continued his service with this unit until the end of the war, receiving his final parole at Wittsburg.

Joel Gilmore Wood enlisted in Craighead County, Arkansas on March 11, 1862. His company completed its organization in March 1862 and Joel Wood was elected Captain. The Company was assigned to Lieutenant-Colonel Batt L. Jones’ 8th Arkansas Infantry Battalion as Company F (Wood’s Rifles) on April 9. As a result of the battalion’s reorganization a month later, Wood’s Rifles was re-designated as Company E on May 10, 1862 with Joel remaining as captain of the company. In October, 1862, the battalion was assigned to Cabell’s Brigade, Price’s Corps, and covered the Confederate withdrawal from the battle of Corinth. The battalion suffered significant losses in this rear-guard action of October 5, 1862. The battalion was then transferred to the brigade of Brigadier-General William Nelson Rector Beall in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and formed part of the garrison of Port Hudson, Louisiana. They endured the siege of that place from May to July, 1863, only surrendering when the fall of Vicksburg rendered the defense of Port Hudson irrelevant. The garrison capitulated on July 9, 1863. This company did not rejoin the battalion after the surrender at Port Hudson. Captain Wood returned to northeast Arkansas and organized Company A, Davies’ 7th Arkansas Cavalry Battalion, in Craighead and Greene counties, and several members of his former company enlisted. It was organized with 5 companies (at least). The battalion was surrendered by Jeff Thompson on May 11, 1865. It's only assignments were: Northern Sub-District of Arkansas, District of Arkansas, Trans-Miss (Apr 1865) Northern Sub-District of Arkansas, District of Arkansas and West Louisiana, Trans-Miss (Apr-May 1865). Joel Gilmore Wood received his official parole on May 25, 1865 at Wittsburg, Arkansas.

William Jasper Langston enlisted in Captain Barnett''s Company, (McCarver''s 14th Arkansas Infantry on 23 Sept. 1861 at Pocahontas, Ark. Companies A,B,E and H were detached from the regiment under Major Kelly''s command and designated as the 9th Ark. Inf. Battalion in Jan. 1862. These companies were further consolidated to become the new companies F and G of the 8th Ark. William served from the date of his enlistment thru Feb. 29 1864.

Christopher was 25 Years old. He enlisted on 23 Sept. 1861 at Pocahontas, Ark. in the [new] Co F 8th Regiment Ark. Inf. He was sick in the City Hotel Hospital in Atlanta Ga. He is assigned as a nurse at that hospital on 9 March 1863 by order of Gen. Bragg. He was taken Prisoner on 6 May 1865 and released after swallowing the yellow dog on 29 May 1865. His wife filed for and received a pension based on his service.

George was listed as AWOL on the bi-monthly reports for March through September 1862, but then is listed as in the hospital by order of the regimental surgeon Oct 10, 1862. He continued being listed in the hospital until dropped from the rolls during the July - August 1863 reporting period. No further record has been found (military or civilian) and it is presumed he died in the service.

William died in a military hospital at Tunnel Hill Ga. from chronic diarrhea Nov 22 1862

Andrew was born in Tenn. in 1838. He was mustered 1 Sept 1861 at Pocahontas in Capt Lindsey's Co. [McCarver's Regt. Ark. Infantry]. aka Co A 9th Battalion Arkansas Infantry [The Izard Volunteers] consolidated with the 14th Regt. Ark Inf. becoming New 2nd Co. G 8th Regiment Ark. Infantry. He has 3 cards in his archival file. He died during the war, location unknown. His last dated CMR March - April 1862 does not state if he is absent or present. Suspect he died during that period. His wife remarried in 1867 to a much older man.

He inlisted in July 1861 and served until the Battle of Chickamauga where he was seriously wounded.

Per his Arkansas Pension application. he was wouned at the battle of New Hope churche in Georgia,27 may 1865,shot thru neck and ear. and at Franklin Tenn. 30 nov 1864 shot thru left elbow.

John M. Elliott enlisted in Co. H 8th Arkansas Infantry on December 12, 1861 at Pocahontas, Ark. He served from this date thru Chickamauga where he was captured.

I cannot find a record online. This info was taken from the 1890 Veterans Census. He served for 4 years, but it is possible that on his second tour of duty, he enlisted in Tennessee, or even if Mississippi.

James was 34 years old when he joined Capt Louis' Co. Ark. Militia. Enlisted 6 Nov 1861 at Pocahontas, Ark. by Col. S Borland for one year. [New] Co I 8th Regiment Ark. Infantry. In Aug. 1863 he is charged $2.50 for the loss of his knapsack. His first fight was at Shiloh and his last at Bentonville, NC. His Regiment was consolidated with the few remaining Ark. Troops and surrendered as Co F 1st Consolidated Regt. Arkansas Vols. Paroled on 26 April 1865 at Greensboro, NC

Enlisted under J.C. Armstrong 16 Nov. 1861 @ Pocahontas, AR, wounded 19 Sep 1863 @ the battle of Chickamauga, GA.
