20th Arkansas Infantry

I'm trying to locate where he's buried. He was killed at Corinth, but as far as I can tell was not buried on the field. His family was from Washington, ARK., but I'm not sure he's buried their either. If anyone has any info Pls contact me at my e-mail adress. Thanks

Killed in train wreak returning to unit from hospital. Duck Hill Montgomery County, MS. Buried in Duck Hill Confederate Cemetery also called Train Wreak Cemetery.

Enlisted at Centerville, Arkansas, February 26, 1862; wounded and captured at Champion’s Hill, Mississippi, May 16, 1863. Died May 17, 1863.

Born: 4 Dec 1830 Franklin Co., Alabama. Died: 6 Jan 1915 Sutton, Nevada Co., Arkansas. Captured at the Battle of Big Black River Bridge 17 May 1863.

Enlisted at Washington, Arkansas, March 1, 1862; discharged for disability, July 7, 1862. Elisha was discharged because he lost his leg and am hoping to find more about the battle, that resulted in him losing his leg.

The 20th Infantry Regiment was ordered east of the Mississippi River along with the rest of General Earl Van Dorn's Army of the West. The regiment was added to a brigade commanded by Brigadier General Albert Rust. The unit boarded a steamer at Des Arc, Prairie County, Arkansas, and moved down the White River, out at its mouth, then up the Mississippi River and landed at Memphis, Tennessee, on April 11, 1862. The regiment was immediately ordered with the remainder of Rust's Brigade to Fort Pillow, Tennessee, approximately 50 miles north of Memphis. The unit departed Memphis via steamer on April 12, 1862 and arrived at Fort Pillow on April 13, 1862. It was here, during the bombardment of Fort Pillow by Union gunboats, that the men saw their first enemy fire. The unit remained at Fort Pillow for fourteen days. The unit experienced few casualties in the bombardment during its stay at Fort Pillow, but many of the soldiers became sick, and several died due to the very muddy conditions and poor water supply at the fort. Confederate troops evacuated Fort Pillow on June 4, 1862 in order to avoid being cut off from the rest of the Confederate army. J.D. Gray was discharged on June 4, 1862.

My records show that James enlisted at Little Rock on March 27, 1862. He was appointed 2nd sgt. May 13, 1862. He was captured at Vicksburg July 4, 1863 and paroled July 8, 1863.

1822 - 1879 Enlisted 3 March 1862 at Perryville, Arkansas. Severely wounded at the Battle of Corinth on 4 Oct 1862, left behind in hospital and captured by the Federals. Paroled and discharged from service on 23 March 1863.

I am Phillip Thomas and the Genealogist for the Brig. Gen. Theadore Washingtin Brevard Camp in Palm Bay Florida. [Charter Pending] This entry is for Allen Priddy who is considering membership for the service of his Great Grandfather Miles Smith Moore. Miles was about 20 when he enlisted on 28 Feb. 1862 at Little Rock, Ark. in Co B Kings Regt Ark Inf. as a Pvt. This became known as the 22nd and then reorganized and became Co H 20th Regiment Ark. Infantry. He was elected to 1st Lieut. 13 May 1862 of Co H. On 4 Oct 1862 he is severely wounded in the legs and left on the battlefield at Corinth. Taken prisoner and exchanged. He served in 2nd Brigade, Bowen's Division, Dept. of Mississippi & East Louisiana. He was given a Certificate of disability at Washington Ark. on 3 Dec. 1863. DEO VINDICE

Enlisted 26 Feb 1862,Co.C 20th Regt.AR Inf.at Warren AR transferred to Co G,12th Battalion Arkansas Sharp Shooters 17 June 1863. He was captured at Vicksburg MS 4 July 1863. Paroled 9 July 1863. He later rejoined with his brothers in the 6th AR Cavalry.

William was 25 years old when he enlisted at Little Rock in King's Company Ark. Vols. 26 Feb 1862. He has 5 CMR's in his archival file. Shortly after enlistment he was elected to 2nd Lieut. The demands of the position were to great and he was demoted back to Pvt. He was married with one child. IN later years his wife remarried. His death and place of burial is not known.
