The majority of his service was with the 32nd Arkansas Infantry (Mounted & dismounted). He was first recruited by Richard Hooker in the 30 day Arkansas Mounted Volunteers, then they reorganised and mustered into the 32nd ... company D
served with Charles H. Matlock & Capt. John Bland, also with Lt-Col/Col. Lucien C Gause up until late summer of 1864 when he was with the 45th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Mounted) with Colonel Mildon D Baber, they were assigned to McCrae's Brigade under General Price and participated in the Missouri Raid.

Chester was born 20 Dec 1845 in Wiley's Cove Twp. Searcy County, Ark. The 1860 census finds him in a the nearby Twp of Bear Creek, he is about 16 years old. He has 15 cards in his archival file that is listed under C A Thommas. He enlisted 16 Jun 1862 when the regiment was formed at Burrowsville by Samuel Laslie for 3 years or the war. The commanding officer was Col. Lucian C Gause.
He was captured 4 July 1863 at the battle of Helena, Ark. Sent to prison at Alton, Illinois then was transferred on 29 Feb 1864 to Fort Delaware and on 7 March 1865 to City Point, Virginia for exchange.
Chester died 8 March 1927 at Humble, Harris City, Texas. He was my 3rd cousin 4 x removed. I have not found his grave.
