Arkansas Confederate Soldiers. William Jackson, Pvt. Enlisted 9 July 1862. Detailed as blacksmith 25 July 1862. Made brigade blacksmith 27 Jun 1863. Surrendered at New Orleans, La. 26 May 1865. Paroled at Shreveport, La. 8 June 1865. He served in 38th Arkansas Infantry, Shaver's Regiment.

Served in Company A 38th Ark. Infantry, Confederate Army. Enlisted 5 July 1862 at Lauratown.

Smith C.S.A. to Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby, U.S.A. May 26 186 and paroled Shreveport, Louisiana June 1865 roll dated Shreveport a. 8 June 1865.

Joseph Lamew, Pvt. Co A, 38 Ark Inf, Shavers Regt. Appears on company muster roll 29 June 1862. Enlisted 7 Sept 186_ at Smithville for ' during the war'.

Henry enlisted July 19 1862, died May 3 1863 at Little Rock Arkansas Hospital. Records show he was at the Battle of Prarie Grove, Arkansas.((I am a descendent of Henry Joslin. I have traced my ancestry and am a member of the SCV. I am trying to find further information on battles my ancestor fought in. Anyone with information, especially Lone Jack,MO (I am wondering if he was there) 16th of August 1862, please contact me.))

He was born 3 Oct 1847. Entered service in 1864,at age 17. No confederate records exist of his enrollment, but he was granted a pension based on other veterans affidavits stating William served in his brother Capt. Morgan Raney's company. This was Co.B, 38th Ark. Inf. attached to Robert 'Bob' G. Shavers Brigade. Other statements indicate thay also served in a Cavalry Regiment that Morgan commanded. Major engagements fought by the 38th were at Prairie Grove and Jenkins ferry. He died 19 Jul 1934 , buried Lawrence Co., Ark.

William, according to family stories, apparently suffered a non healing wound to one of his arms and possibly a head injury as well.

Freeman’s Missouri Cavalry was organized on July 5, 1864. This regiment took part in Price’s Missouri Raid (August – October 1864). The following were all in Company D. We don’t have any record here of how or when the transfer from the 38th Arkansas Infantry to Freeman’s took place. Fountain (private), G.W.(private), Jeremiah (2nd lieutenant), J.W.(private).

Allen born in Tennessee in 1838 to Major and Frances Sanders married Lurena Ledford in 1862 shortly after he enlisted in the 38th Infantry. He was captured in Lawrence County, Arkansas October 7, 1863 and died at Rock Island Federal Prison in Illinois in 1865.

Born in Tennessee in 1830, Joseph moved with his family to Arkansas about 1835. He married Hester A. Pierce in 1853 in Sharp County, Arkansas and they had three sons before Joseph enlisted July 12, 1862. His wife died in 1862 and Febuary 27, 1863 Joseph is listed as dead leaving 3 sons. His sons were raised by his brother Samuel Blake Sanders and his wife Malinda (Pierce, sister of Hester) Sanders.

Major was the son of John A. and Kenziah Sanders. He was born in Tennessee in 1834 but they were living in Sharps County, Arkansas by the 1850 census. He survived the war dying in Lawrence County, Arkansas in December of 1885.

Robert Cyphus Evans enlisted in the 38th Arkansas Infantry (Co. F)in Evening Shade July 1862. He was paroled in Louisiana in 1865 after the war ended.

Born in North Carolina in 1812. Commissioned as Captain of Company F, 38th Arkansas Infantry on 16 July 1862 in Evening Shade, Sharp Co., Arkansas. Resigned his Commisson on 12 March 1863 at Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas due to poor health and advanced age for infantry service. Died at Poughkeepsie, Sharp Co., Arkansas in 1881.

Born 11 Sept 1837 in Weakley Co., Tennessee. Enlisted in Company F, 10th Missouri Infantry on 19 April 1862, in Fulton Co. Arkansas. Transfered to Company F, 38th Arkansas on 26 Sept 1862. His father was Company commander. He died in Sharp Co., Arkansas on 16 Aug 1914.

He was engaged in farming until the breaking out of the War Between the States. When it was known that war would surely come, he enlisted and was made a lieutenant in Capt. Gray's company (Co. F of the 38th Arkansas Infantry), and served until 1863, when a consolidation of regiments occurred at Arkadelphia. At this time, he came back to north Arkansas and raised a company, was made captain, and his company (Co. D) entered Freeman's Missouri command. Captain Huddleston served throughout the war. After the war closed, Capt. Huddleston came back to Sharp County, Arkansas and in 1874 was elected sheriff as a Democrat, which position he held three terms, retiring in 1890.

Fountain Rogers enlisted straight into Company F, 38th Arkansas on July 16, 1862 at Evening Shade as did an Oliver Rogers.

Enroled August 4 1862, Louis was wounded at Prairie Grove December 7 1863 AT AGE 33. Born in Tennessee November 2 1829 and died October 26 1895.

E.C. (Elihu Crisp) Edwards enlisted at Sulphur Rock, AR on August 6, 1862. He was born March 13, 1836 in Hardeman CO, TN. He and his family moved to AR around 1855. Military records show that he deserted on June 9, 1865 on the march from Camden, AR to Monroe, LA. The war was over at this point. I presume that the army was on the march to Monroe to officially surrender. E.C. had a wife, a 3-year old and a 5-month old at home. I believe that his father was sick or dead at this time. I suspect that E.C. was in a hurry to get home and that he couldn't see the sense of marching south just to turn around and then march north to home.
