34th Arkansas Infantry

Capt. James Ingram raised a company of cavalry in the eastern part of Benton County, and it served in Northwestern Arkansas until October, 1863, when it went south, dismounted, joined and became a part of the Thirty-fourth Arkansas Infantry.

William Cansler was 35 and a resident of Washington County when he enlisted as a private in the summer of 1862. He served as a hospital stewart in the unit.

Louis D. Kelley (6/18/62-2/28/63) enlisted in Sebastian County AR. He was reported AWOL on 2/38/63.

I'm looking for any historial information regading this person & unit.

William was my 2nd Great Grandfather. He was born in Alabama and moved to Arkansas. He was from Shepherd Springs, named after his family. He fought with his cousin Capt. James C Wright. The first battle was in Prairie Grove, Ark. He was wounded later in the war. He drew a military pension of $100.00 a year. He lived to be around 92 years old, dying in 1923.

William also went by J W Thomason, according to a pension application filed in Oklahoma. William is my great gg grandfather.

Andrew M. Vaught, 4th Corporal, Company E, Brook's Regiment, Arkansas Infantry,* enlisted June 17, 1862 in Crawford County by J. C. Wright for 3 years, taken prisoner December 30, 1862** Frog [sp?] Bayou, Washington County, Arkansas, recorded as 4th Sergeant April, 1863, appointed Ensign November 1, 1864 to take rank October 25, 1864. Col. I have the honor to recommend for appointment to the office of "Ensign" of Brooks' Regt.__Hawthorne's Brigade, Fagen's Division, Arkansas infantry, Andrew Marion Vaught. He is twenty one years of age, was born in ???, is now a citizen of the State of Arkansas. This office created by Act of Congress app. in Feby, 1864 has never been filled in this Regt. The man recommended has been bearing the flag as Color Sergt since 30th of April last. He is a Sergeant in Company "E" of the Regiment. This promotion is richly deserved. Sergt. Vaught nobly won a reputation for bravery on the bloody field of "Jenkin's Ferry." He gallantly bore the flag in the close of that fight after three others had fallen with it.

Clem enlisted on August 11, 1862, was in the Battle of Prairie Grove died January 30, 1863.

He is shown as a Private on the Company Muster Roll for Company K, Brooks Regiment, 34th Arkansas Infantry, CSA, from June 13, 1862 to Oct. 31, 1862. He is shown again from Oct. 31, 1862 to Feb. 28, 1863. His last pay was Aug. 22, 1862. He deserted on Dec. 7, 1862 at the Battle of Prairie Grove (Arkansas).

Samuel was conscripted into the regiment and deserted before or right after the battle of Prairie Grove. Joined the Union army Co. A. 1st Arkansas Infantry. Married Caroline Herd daughter of William W. Herd in Lamar County, Texasafter the war.

Lee Roy served Military duty in co ''K'', 34th Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army.
