Timothy Pulaski Barfield was my gg grandfather.

Mirabeau was born in Decatur County Georgia 23 Aug 1844. He was enlisted 17 April 1862 at Atlanta by Capt. W.L. Hubbard for 3 years or more. He enlisted as a Pvt in Co A and was transferred to Co E 15 May 1862. He was promoted to 5th Sgt. July 1862 and to 4th Sgt Nov. 1863. He has 12 items in his Battalion. The 9th is commanded by Major Austin Leyden. On 26 April 1864 he is given a field commission as 3rd Lieut. and then to Junior 2nd Lieut. and has been transferred to Co A 2nd Georgia Infantry reserves. He has 7 items in his archival file in this Reserve Battalion. The 9th served first in Georgia, then transferred to the Tennessee and assigned to Gen. Marshall. It was active in southwest Virginia and the Knoxville Tenn. Campaign and then transferred to the Dept of Richmond in 1864, and stationed at Chaffins Bluff, Va. The Battalion participated in the Petersburg Siege and served under Gen. C.A. Evans in the Appomattox Campaign. It surrendered 1 Officer and 19 men. Mirabeau died 12 July 1917 in Atlanta, Fulton Co. Ga. and buried in Oaklawn Cem in that city. He did not apply for a pension, but his wife did. She was Luta C Zachy, and she drew a pension. He was the father-in-law of my 7th cousin 2 x removed.

George has 13 cards in his archival file. He was 18 years old when he enlisted at Atlanta Ga. on 25 April 1862. He served with Barnes' and Leyden's artillery Batteries. in Co A 9th Georgia Light Artillery. He was captured at the battle of Cumberland Gap and sent to Louisville Ky. then transferred to Camp Douglas in Chicago Illinois arriving there in Sept of 1863. He was a POW there until his release on 16 June 1865. George was the husband of my 1st cousin 3 x removed Martha Eleanor Pankey 1858 - 1939. Deo Vindice

Joshua was my great-great-grandfather. He also went by the names Richard, Dick, and J. H. Segars. He served in the 9th for the first part of the war until his capture. His battalion was also known as Leyden's Battery, led by field officer Major Austin Leyden. Joshua was captured at the Cumberland Gap on September 9, 1863 and sent to Camp Douglas in Illinois where he remained until the end of the war. Joshua is said to have received the Southern Cross of Honor from the Atlanta UDC, Chapter 18. He came home after the war and continued to live in Georgia, raising a large family. He was a shoemaker, a farmer, and later, a night watchman. Joshua died in 1919 at the age of 91. He is buried in Smyrna Memorial Cemetery, Smyrna, GA.

Born 7 May 1841, Marion Co., Georgia. Died 1 Sept 1932, Cherokee Co., Texas. He also served in the 20th Georgia Infantry Regiment from June to November 1861, before enlisting with the 9th Artillery in April 1862.

Born 1845 Marion Co., Georgia. Believed to have died in May 1865 after being released from having been a POW. He also served in the 46th Georgia Infantry from April to July 1862 before being discharged for being underage. Enlisted with the 9th Artillery at Knoxville Tennessee in June 1863.

Battalion D 9th Ga Lt Artillery from Gwinnett County, Ga

Captain Tyler Peeples commanded Company D - Gwinnett County - Gwinnett Artillery. This battalion was formed with five companies in the spring of 1862. Crute states that some of the men were from Augusta and Richmond counties, but, to date, my research has shown Fulton, Muscogee and Gwinnett counties. The battalion served first in Georgia, then was transferred to Tennessee and assigned to the command of Gen. H. Marshall. It was active in southwest Virginia and the Knoxville, TN campaign, then was transferred to the Department of Richmond in 1864 and stationed at Chaffin's Bluff, VA. The battalion participated in the Petersburg Siege and served as infantry under Gen. C. A. Evans in the Appomattox Campaign. It was surrendered on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox with 1 officer and 19 men
