30th Georgia Infantry

this is my great great grandfather who was in the Georgia Militia when it was organized into the 30th Georgia Infantry. he was a capt. in the Butts County Invincibles.

Enlisted in 'Butts Invincibles' Sept 25, 1861. Killed at Chickamauga Sept. 19, 1863.

Johnson, William H. enlisted September 25, 1861. In Jackson's Cavalry Division Hospital July – August 1863. Pension records show he contracted chronic dysentery in Mississippi June 1863, was sent home on furlough and never returned. (Born in Ga. July 5, 1841.) Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865 lists William as “DD” – discharged for disability.

John A. Coffee was born on 26 April 1838 in Georgia, the son of Peter Coffee and Susan Ann Bailey Rogers. John married Rebecca S. Daniel, daughter of James S. Daniel and Elizabeth Willcox. John was a member of Company H. Records show him as a 2nd Lieutenant 6 June 1861, elected Captain 3 October 1861. John was wounded at Chickamauga 19 September 1863. He was elected Major 6 May 1864 and retired as Captain 14 October 1864. On roll dated 31 October 1864, he was reported 'erroneously promoted to Major in his absence and since retired as Captain to Invalid Corps.' He owned a large farm in Houston County, GA, after the war. John died on 11 March 1901 at the age of 62. He is buried in Orange Hill Cemetery, Hawkinsville, GA National Archives Microfilm Box, Roll, and Record: 000226, 0013, 00000114 (3rd Cousin 4 times removed)

William was 19 years old when he enlisted on 25 Sept 1861 in Clayton Co. Georgia. On 1 Aug 1862 he was transferred while at Camp Hardee. to Co D 1st Battalion Georgia Sharp Shooters. He was sick in the hospital in June 1863 and was shot in the left foot on Sept 1864. This wound left him with a limp for the rest of his life.He died 14 April 1912 in Waco, Carroll County Georgia. He is my 1st cousin 5 x removed. He has an engraving of him taking aim at the enemy and it is said he killed as many as he could of the the murdering sob's as could.

This info is on his tombstone but having trouble finding it on muster rolls. He is also known as Jack Hamrick. He is from Lincoln County then migrated to Texas.

Married: Nancy C McCune About 1858 Minerva Annie Eliza Lovvorn 6-29-1893 Richard Loyal Farr enlisted in 30th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company H (later Company G after reorganization) on August 24, 1862. Admitted 11-1-1863 to Bell Hospital in Rome, GA.

This is my GGGrandfather, of whose son I was named after. If any of my relatives or those interested in Captain Jimmy, I also have his photo in uniform.
