Confederate pension application says 4th Georgia Reserves yet no history of this unit exists. However, Col Henry Forno commanded the 2nd and 4th Georgia Infantry Reserves as guards at Andersonville.

Thomas F. Austin was forty-eight years old when he was drafted into the 2nd GA Reserve Regiment. He lived on a 200-acre farm in the community of Sandy Springs northeast of Atlanta. He was appointed as sergeant in Company C. He arrived with his regiment at Andersonville on May 13, 1864, with the responsibility to guard the captured Union soldiers at the prison. Sgt. Austin died of measles on October 18, 1864, and was buried in the Confederate cemetery at the prison. In 1880, his remains along with the other Confederate soldiers, were disinterred and reburied at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus.

Enlisted on 17 Aug 1864 at Atlanta, GA.

Born in Jackson County GA in Aug 1846, lived in Buckhead area of first DeKalb and then Fulton Counties until his death in 1904. His brothers RD, SM and JW were all in the 38th GA Infy.

John Thomason was thirty-nine years old when he was drafted into the 2nd GA Reserve Regiment. He lived on a 200-acre farm in the community of Sandy Springs northeast of Atlanta. He was appointed as lieutenant in Company C. He arrived with his regiment at Andersonville on May 13, 1864, with the responsibility to guard the captured Union soldiers at the prison. Thomason served as lieutenant in the regiment until October. His friend and neighbor, Sgt. Thomas F. Austin of Company C, died of measles on October 18th, and Thomason soon after was listed as absent without leave. It is surmised that Thomason west home to bring in his crop as well as his deceased neighbor Austin's crop and never returned back to his regiment. There is no record of any consequences due to deserting the regiment. Thomason continued to reside on his farm in Sandy Springs until his death at age 88 in 1914.

My GG Uncle is buried in Sardis, GA. His headstone is CSA and marked accordingly. However, I cannot find any further information, no roster, no history, nothing. . . . Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

John M. Flowers was son of Major John Y. Flowers. The Flowers family were from DeKalb Co GA.John was born May 6th 1847.

Died 14 Sep 1864 Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia, grave moved from Atlanta due to later construction, may be interred in Albany, GA. His son Hinchey M. Mitchell, d:July 1862, in Richmond Henrico, Virginia, serving with the 44th GA Infantry, during the Battle of MAlvern Hill (Seven Days). This is my GGGGrandfather on my father's side.

Son of Allan David Mitchell, survived to move to Alabama with A.D. Mitchell, Jr sometime around 1883. Served during the defense of, and retreat from Atlanta at the age of 15
