13th Battalion La. Partisan Rangers

Richard L Capers led the 13th battalion as both the partisan rangers and as the 5th La Cavalry later in the war. As the latter he held the rank of colonel. Richard Capers began the war as a captain in the 9th La Infantry's Moore Fencibles. This was only for a short time before returning from VA to La in order to form the La Partisan Rangers.

Son of Burnell & Lucy Williams Land ' Enlisted 2-28-1863 ' ' on the rolls ' Mar-Apr 1863. 3rd Cavalry Battalion [also called 13th Battalion Partisan Rangers] was organized during the spring of 1862. The unit skirmished in Louisiana until the winter 1863-1864 when it merged into Pargoud's 3rd Louisiana Cavalry Regiment. Lieutenant Colonels Richard L. Capers and Samuel L. Chambliss and Major James H. Capers were in command.

My Uncle - Enlisted 20July62 at Floyd, La. Served thru 31April63 - then transferred to 5th La Cavalry.

eldridge was born 1844 in hinds co. miss. by 1860 was in carroll parish la. joined at age 18. married cindy evans in 1864,farthered 12,died after 1900 and rests at midway cem.in richland parish

Born 23 Jan 1836 in Tennessee. Died 15 Mar 1917 in Louisiana. Later promoted to Enrolling Officer.
