15th Louisiana Infantry

Benjamin Martin is my 3rd Great Grandfather who enlisted in 1865 at the rank of Private in the Louisiana Fifteenth Infantry, So - Z and Fifteenth (Weatherly's) Battalion, Sharp Shooters. Benjamin Martin was born on 20 March 1818 in Anacoco, Vernon Parish, Louisiana to William (Billy)(Pioneer) Martin and Eliazbeth (Native Cherokee Indian) and died in 1885.

Company also called the 'Davenport Rebels'.

My GGrandfather and all 3 of his brothers fought for the confederacy, all but one returned home. The most colorful was Joseph. He fought in all the famous battles with The Army of Northern Va. pvt. William R. Dale 16/25 La. Inf captured at Seminary Ridge Pvt. Robert M. Dale 3rd La. Cav. Pvt. George W. Dale 3rd La. Cav. killed at Monticello, Ark. Capt. Joseph H. Dale Co. D Wheats 1st Special Batt.> Co. C(?) 7th La. Batt.> Co. H Louisiana Zouaves Reg.> Co. I 15th La. Inf. wounded at 2nd Manassas wounded at Richmond around 7 Pines wounded and captured at Cedar Creek

Pvt. John C. Johnson (also listed as Jones on some records) enlisted April 25, 1861 with Wheat's Battalion, Company B. Present to December 1861. Re-enlisted into Company I, 15th Louisiana Infantry Regiment as a substitute for S. Block on December 21, 1862 at Camp Moore, LA. Present from January to February 1863. Absent sick, March to June 1863. Died in hospital May 1863. He was a born in Tennessee and was a carpenter.
