Known as Armand or Joseph Ruiz on various records. Entered service as a Sgt in the Sumter Regiment--Algiers, Orleans, Louisiana-- and left service as a 2nd Lieutenant. (M378, roll 25) Was captured in the Battle of Atlanta on 5 Aug 1864 and released on oath on 13 June 1865 per General Order 109. Occupation: ship pilot.

Also known as the Algier's Guards, Octave Vallette helped sign soldiers up for this unit. When the Yankees were on their way down the Mississippi River, he and his father decided to blow up their docks and lose their business rather then surrender them to the enemy so they could repair their ships on their dry docks. This was taken from Octave's Obituary August 4,1902 Picayune Paper. Wounded in the Battle of Ezra Church in the Atlanta Campaign on July 23, 1864. Left for dead and was nursed back to health by a Mrs. Catherine Winters from Columbus,GA. Documented by a newspaper article that is now on Ancestry.com.

Gustave was born the son of a prosperous farmer, and war of 1812 veteran ,Alexis Folse,in 1837. He died in 1905.

My Great-Great-Great-Grandfather Samuel E. McConathy Co C 30th Louisiana Infantry

Charles Inkstone was in fact Charles Bulingham who arrived in New Orleans aboard a cargo ship from Cheltenham, England in 1861. Fought in battles North of Lake Pontchartrain where he was wounded. He died of a heart attack in New Orleans at age 59 in 1906. During the war he was wounded in the right side during a Union cavelry charge. Cannon fire caused the tops of Magnolia trees to fall to the ground and cover Charles, thus, he was not seen by the charging horsemen. Hospital records of the era show him recovering in Magnolia, Mississippi. Charles once hid, along with fellow soldiers in the waters of Lake Pontchartrain during one night to escape detection by Union forces.

There seems to be inconsistancies in the spelling of the last name. It has shown to be spelled 'Berthelot.' There are 5 other members located in 3rd Infantry and 9th Infantry spelled 'Berthelet.' We appear to be related by all accounts.
