Great grandfather Enlisted 3yrs, Exeter ME under Capt. Thaxter, 10 AUG 62, Col Sam Allen. Wounded 29 JUL 64 in skirmish on Malvern Hill,7 weeks recupe at City Point VA hosp. Saw action in many of 1St Maine's engagements. Honorable Discharge at Petersburg, VA Born 11 JUN 43 Exeter, married Ellen M Spare of Norton MA, 5 OCT 73, 2 children, Grace Ames (Oct 74) & Jennie Marie (76). GAR, Masons, Nat Lancers. Buried Braintree MA

Mustered 19 October 1861, orderly for Gen. Nagle 1862, wounded severely at Aldie 17 June 1863. Discharged for disabilities at Mansion House Hospital, Alexandria 15 Feb. 1864

From Caribou, ME. Enlisted in the Union Army 26 Dec. 1863. On Jan. 19, 1864 mustered in at Portland, ME. Description: 3 years service as Pvt in Co. F & D Cav DC 1st. Transferred to Co. D - 1st Cavalry Regiment Maine 14 Feb. 1865. Discharged by Order W.D. on 28 Apr 1865.

Peter Bruso, my GT Grandfather (paternal)(They added an 's' to Bruso when they copied his enlistment card over). Volunteer enlistment, Feb 23, 1864, Portland, ME. First battle May 8, 1864 @ Todd's Tavern, survived Cold Harbor. Was injured by a horse falling on him April 2, 1865 and was put in Bay Point(Cold Point?)HOspital for 3 months then mustered out with his regiment August 1, 1865. Canadian born: Trois Rivieres, St. Maurice, Quebec, Canada 1837, died 1912 in Dummer, New Hampshire. I have requested his complete records from NARA and should probably recieve them around the end of October, 1st of November, 2005.

Enlisted as a Private at the age of 19. Enlisted in 1st Cavalry Regiment District of Columbia. Transferred into Company G, 1st Cavalry Regiment Maine on 19 February 1864. Discharged on 3 June 1865.

Liberty was originally in the 22nd Maine Infantry, but after it was mustered out, he enlisted in the 1st Maine Cavalry. He died on 5 September 1864 during the Richmond-Petersburg Campaign, likely of wounds taken at the Second Battle of Ream's Station.
