Enlisted as a Private on 15 January 1862 at the age of 38. Received a disability discharge on 8 March 1864.

Florentius was my Great, Great, Great uncle. He was a musician in the 14th. He was the oldest of the 6 Merrill Brothers from a Windsor, ME family to serve in this war, including my direct ancestor, Leonard Merrill of the 2nd ME Cavalry. All survived.

Company D,E M543 roll 23 Believe identified as: Born Scotland ~1830, to New Brunswick, then to Township #7, Range 2, Kossuth/Topsfield, Wahington County, Maine. Possible casualty, as widow and children returned to NB in 1868.

Drummer Boy. Marched with General Sherman to Savanah, Georgia

Enlistment Date: March 23, 1865 Service Record: Enlisted as a Corporal on March 23, 1865 at the age of 28(?) Enlisted in Company I, 14th Maine Infantry Regiment on March 23, 1865. Mustered out of Company I, 14th Maine Infantry Regiment on August 28, 1865.

Buried in Presque Isle, ME Mustered in as Private, gained eventual promotions to 1st Lt. 14th ME INF. Co. I and H -- a photo of Lt Glidden can be seen on file at Maine State Archives 84 State House Station Augusta, ME 04333-0084 Item - Glidden, B.B., 1st Lt., Co.F (Neg.#759)

I'm not sure if a full Corporal is a 4th Corporal.
