Hiram served from September 1862 to summer of 63 with Michigan's 21st Volunteer Infantry, company A. Considering the one year time frame I am wondering if he was injured. His widow applied for benefits, I'm not sure if she received them or not. How do I find out the answer to these questions?

3 Sep 1862-Mustered into ''A'' Co. Mich. 21st Infantry Regiment.
10 Nov 1864-Promoted to Sergent.
14 Jun 1865-Discharged at Parkersburg, WV.
His brothers Francis and James and his cousin Hiram all enlisted in Company A of the regiment.

Surgeon
Appointed Assistant Surgeon to the 21st Michigan Infantry; and, in the following year, was promoted to the rank of Surgeon. He served in both Company F and S. He remained in the army until the close of the war, and was present at the battles of Perryville, Stone River, Lookout Mountain, Chickamauga, and Bentonville; and was with General Sherman on his march to the sea. During the last year of the war, he acted as brigade Surgeon; and, with his regiment, was mustered out of service, at Detroit, in June, 1865.

James is my great grandfather.He was born on Kentucky in 1828 and married Pamelia Wall in Cannonsburg,Michigan in 1850.He was a teamster and served until they send if the war. Here died in Summertown,Tn in 1904. Here I'd buried there.
