In a 1906 Census of CS veterans, he listed his service as Co. A, 1st MS Cavalry. He had previously served in Co. D, 2nd MS Rifles, in the Mexican American War.

My GGG Grandmother's brother and son of Sarah Slade and Daniel Grantham, (Nixon's 13th Regiment, Mississippi Territory Militia (Battle of New Orleans @ Chalmette)) and direct descendant of Pvts. Lewis Grantham, Samuel Slade and David Irby, American Revolution. Paroled 19MAY1865

Walden has three cards in his archival file. He enlisted at abt 17 years old in Capt W.S Reynold's Co Cavalry mounted * exempts. This became Co A 1st Miss Cavalry Reserves. He was engaged in all the battles fought by his unit. His unit surrendered at Citronelle, Ala. and paroled at Columbus, Miss. 16 May 1865.

Abner was born in Jones County Miss and was about 28 years old when he joined Co B 1st Battalion Miss. Cavalry. [McNair's] He survived the war. He has 2 cards in his archival file. He was the father in law of my 1st cousin 3 x removed. He died in 1886 in Covington Co. Miss.

Second great uncle. Member of the Henderson's Scouts organized as an independent cavalry company in 1863 under direct command of Capt. Thomas Henderson under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Henderson's Scouts consisted of men from Obion Co., TN and Fulton Co., KY.

Private John F. Ayers was born Nov. 24, 1841 in Tippah County, Mississippi. At the age of 21, he enlisted in Company C, Ham’s 1st Battalion Mississippi State Cavalry, a.k.a. 16th Battalion State Cavalry. Private Ayers died shortly after the war on June 8th 1865 in Anderson County, Texas. He is buried in the Miller - Ayres Family Cemetery in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas.

Born in Calhoun Co., Mississippi in 1845. Younger brother of Levi W. Phillips. Apparently died in Virginia in 1863 after being exchanged after capture and spending time in the Petersburg General Hospital.

Buried in Center Ridge Methodist Cem. in Winston County, MS. I am not sure about the Comp. or Unit. The tombstone inscription states Comp. G MISS CAV CSA. I found a W. Scott in the 1st MS CAV., but it shows as Comp. C.

Buried at Goodwater Cemetery, Lauderdale Co. MS.

Nahum Putney served in the west starting with the battle of Belmont, through Shilo and ending the war at Selma riding with Nathan Bedford Forrest.
