Great Great Great Great Uncle, Sent home on sick leave from the 32nd Miss Inf., Then elected Lt. Of Co.'B' 12th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion ( Partisan Rangers)while at home, He was then Promoted to Capatain in command of the company. This Battalion was increased to a Regiment and there DESIGNATION WAS Changed to 10th Mississippi Cavalry regiment, the Company retained there Designation of Co.'B'.

Was originally a member of the 26th Mississippi Infantry, captured at Ft. Donelson, TN. Orr was sick in the hospital in Nashville and was not captured. The 32nd Mississippi was made up of units of the 26th plus new recruits. Orr later assigned to Co. A, 1st Div. Hawkins Sharpshooters

My great great grandfather, Smith Scroggins, enlisted in the 32nd Mississippi in March 1862 in Company A. He participated, with his Regiment, in the Battle of Perryville and in the Tullahoma Campaign. In September 1863 the Regiment participated in the Battle of Chickamauga where Smith was mortally wounded on the second day (20th). He died from his wounds on October 8, 1863 in a field hospital near Ringgold, Georgia. He was elected, by his comrades, to the Confederate Roll of Honor for this actions at Chickamauga. After the war his body was moved to the Marietta Confederate Cemetary.

Born near Ripley, Mississippi. Died and buried in Confederate Cemetery, Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Oswald was born 12 Oct 1836 in Florence, Lauderdale, Ala. He enlisted at age 24 on 6 March 1862 at Lebanon, Mississippi in Co B 32nd Miss Vols. He has 14 cards in his archival file. Capt. W.R. Nelson's Company. Served in Gen. S.A.M. Wood's & Lowrey's Brigade. Appointed 3rd Corporal 24 Aug 1862. Just before the end of the war the 32nd was consolidated and became 8th Battalion Mississippi Vols. Fought in Tennessee, Atlanta and Carolina Campaign's. We are related by marriage.

Not a relative, but ran acorss his marker in Sehorn Cemetery, Waldron, Scott County, Arkansas, and wanted to add him to his group.

George was born in Coffee Co. Tenn in 1832 he died 26 Sept 1862 in the battle at Bardstown, Kentucky. Enlisted 6 Mar 1862 by Col. M P Lowery into Capt W R Nelson's Co Miss. Vols. at Lebanon. He was 30 years old. His Regiment was at Corinth & Shiloh. 30 June 1862 he is sick in camp at Tupelo, Miss. His Regiment moved to Chattanooga in July and to Glasgow, Ky Sept 13, 1862. Engaged 14 thru 17 Sept in Murfordsville, Ky. which was a Confederate Victory. The following week 26 Sept George died at Bardstown, Ky. His passing is noted in the Regiments after action report by Capt James L Kennedy/ commanding.. It is not noted if his death was from disease or military action. He is buried at Bardmore, Ky.. God rest his soul.

John Thomas was my great-great grandfather.

Patten Clemmons was my Great Great Grandfather. He was born in North Carolina. From what I can tell he enlisted May 13, 1862, detached May 21, 1862 as a pioneer. (His name appears on a list of prisoners forwarded from Camp Davis, MS to Corinth, MS June 1, 1863.) He was Captured sometime between May 28 - 31, 1863, near Kossuth, MS by Lieut. Davis. Age 24, height 5'8", eyes blue, hair auburn, complexion fair, occupation farmer, residence Tishomingo Co. MS. The part between the ( ) I cannot locate. My great Grandfather 1839-1907

Flemming S. Norman was a lieutenant in the “Lowrey Guards” (Co. H) of the 60-day troops (a.k.a. Army of Ten Thousand), which was mustered in December 6, 1861 into the Fourth Regiment—Rueben Davis’ Brigade (also called Second Regiment), under Capt. Mark P. Lowrey. Norman succeeded Lowrey as captain after Lowrey was elected colonel of the Fourth Regiment. Norman continued to serve under Lowrey as captain of Co. D in the newly formed 32nd Infantry Regiment, organized in Corinth, MS, in March of 1862, where he also enlisted my great grandfather, N.R. Oakes, into his company. Norman led Co. D in all the great battles of the Army of Tennessee through 1864. He was Acting Lieutenant-Colonel when he was killed in the Battle of Atlanta, on July 22, 1864. Would like info. about where he was buried.

My great grandfather Nathan Richardson Oakes enlisted in Kossuth, MS, on 3/13/62, after serving in Mississippi's 60-Day Troops. He next served in Co. D, of the 32nd Regiment, under his uncle, Capt. F.S. Norman. Serving the entire war in the Army of Tennessee, he surrendered with the army at Durham's Station under Gen. Joseph E. Johnston on 4/26/65. He married Martha Ellen Turner in Mississippi on 6/1/65, the sister of his comrade in Co. D, William D. Turner. N.R Oakes is buried with his wife and family members in the Santa Anna Cemetery, Coleman County, TX. He twice had letters published in the Confederate Veteran, Vol. VII, 1899 and Vol. VIII, 1900.

Enlists at Kossuth 13 Mar 1862. Rank:Private/Corporal. Wife Mary F Harrison. Story shows him as part Indian but the DNA doesn't show this. Killed by Union soldiers returning to Corinth at the time the war was ending per a grand neice of his who was alive to be inteviewed by me in the 80s. 3rd great grandfather. listed as James in census (identified by wife and kids), son of Green Dewberry Robins and Ursula Weatherford. Thomas Benjamin Settle was a Farmer who lived in Biggersville Mississippi near Corinth Mississippi and joined Company D at Kossuth Mississippi as a 3rd Sgt in 1862 after escaping capture at Fort Donleson. Mr. Settle served most notably at the battle of Chickamauga on September 19 and 20 1862 and was commanded by Col. Mark Perrin Lowery who was in Wood's Brgade who was a part of Hill's Corps on the right side 0f the line. Mr. Settle tells his father that while he saw others run because they were afraid of being 'hurt'but none of his father's aquaintenances 'flickered' and they drove the enemy from the field. Mr. Settle also reports that at one point in the battle he could hear the enemy (the Yankees) building breastworks some 300 yards in front of him while he and his comrades were building theirs.

William Turner was my great uncle. He enlisted in Corinth, MS, on 5/15/62. He was promoted to 2nd Sgt. on 6/16/63.

Lee was my GGGrandfather (on my father's maternal side). Lee's Company 'I' was known as 'Johnston Avengers'. His records are provided at Film number M232 roll 33, Civil War Soldier & Sailors System (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/). He had previously served in the 26th Mississppi Infantry Regt. The 32nd Infantry Regiment was assembled at Iuka and mustered into Confederate service at Philadelphia, Mississippi, during the summer of 1862. Its members were recruited in Tishomingo, Lee, Prentiss, and Alcorn counties. The unit was assigned to General S.A.M. Wood's and Lowrey's Brigade and participated in the difficult campaigns of the Army of Tennessee from Chickamauga to Atlanta, was with Hood in Tennessee, and saw action in North Carolina. During the Murfreesboro Campaign this unit was detailed to guard the stations and bridges on the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad. For a time the regiment was consolidated with the 45th Regiment and in the fight at Chickamauga lost 25 killed and 141 wounded and at Tunnell Hill reported 18 casualties. In December the 32nd/45th totalled 515 men and 387 arms. At the Battle of Atlanta the 32nd had 18 killed, 45 wounded, and 23 missing. In January 1863 after the 26th Infantry Regiment was exchanged, Gen. Bragg ordered the members of the 26th who were in the 32nd back to the reorganized 26th. Lee was among their ranks. Lee was born 1833 in McNairy County, TN, and died Aft. 1880 possibly in Corinth, Alcorn County, MS. Surviving the Civil War, he moved from Tishomingo County, MS to Logan County, AR.

William Young was my Great grandfather. He had my grandfather with his second wife later in life and he died when my grandfather was young. I have spent many years researching and trying to find information about this side of the family. It was just recently that I came across the records that showed William had been in the infantry. There is a document showing his military grave registration. It saddens me to have seen this knowing what his grave looks like. It is a large block of stone. It appears as if someone hand carved the information into the block rather crudely. There is no designation of his service but from looking at this documentation I can clearly see that he did serve and I know that it was him because of the name of the cemetery being on the document. He has a rather common name for the time but the cemetery is quite small and does not have many people in it. I am hoping to find more information about this side of the family. A few years ago I had about given up I hope to honor him. Enlisted March 8, 1862 Corinth, Mississippi May and June 1862 Absent, furloughed on account of wounds received at Ft. Donelson. July and Aug. 1862 Present. Nov. and Dec. 1862 Present, in arrest. Jan. and Feb. 1863. 10 Jan. 63, transferred to the 26th Miss.
