Enlisted as Pvt. in Confederate Army July 1st, 1862 at Callaway Co. Mo. Was captured at Little Rock, Ark., Sept.14th, 1863. Was a prisoner at Gratiot St. Military Prison, St. Louis, Mo. Oct. 14th, 1863 and released Dec. 1863. Served in Co. H. Clark's Regt, Mo. Infantry. This was designated the 9th Missouri Infantry Regiment.
