6th Missouri Infantry

Commissioned as 1st Lieutenant in Company A in June 1861 and mustered out June 24 1864. He re-enlisted with Company A as Captain and mustered out August 23, 1865. Promoted to Captain and was transferred from Company A to Company D.

was taken sick just before siege of Vicksburg (1862) and was confined in Convolescent camp at Memphis, Tenn. for about six months, then rejoined his regiment.

George Stratton was from Scotland. He came to the U.S. in the 1850's. He enlisted in the 6th in St. Louis. After the war he went with Lt. David Mortimer, also from the 6th, to Ottawa County, Kansas, near Delphos, KS, and homesteaded there along the banks of the Solomon River. He fought indians as they raided the Solomon Valley. He lived next to Anna Morgan who was captured during one of these raids and later freed by George Custer. George Stratton became very successful raising cattle, owned 2,700 acres and a flour mill in Delphos, Kansas. He died in 1907 and is buried in the Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis, Kansas.

Served in Co G & K from 1 June 1861 thru 23 Aug 1865. After the Civil War he and his brother George P Baugh reenlisted into Co M 5th US Arty and served at Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas, FL.
