10th Missouri Infantry

John Henry Godbey was Under Captain Joyce. Not sure what Company that would be ,But any more info on him I would Love to hear from any one. He was a Bugler For his Reg't.He served 3yrs. 7/16/1861 to 8/5/1864. He as 20 yrs old when he went in. He was my Ggg uncle.

Also known as 'Newmey,' & 'Newmon.' After war he moved north to live with sister Caroline C. (Wood) Hopkins near Minneapolis, MN, and married his childhood sweetheart, Abbie Phillips, of Foster, RI. Prior to the 10th MO INF, he served in Col. Ink's Pacific Battalion, Enrolled Missouri Militia, with his brother, Hiram. Hiram was my GGrandfather. I have family tree before him. Bill

1838-1918 Pike County, Illinois. Transferred to 4th Veteran Reserve Corps in late 1863. Discharged Indianapolis, IN Sep. 1864.

He was my great grandfather. He was killed in the Battle of Yazoo Pas on March 20th, 1863, in the attempt to take Fort Permerton. He was from Schuyler County, Missouri and was married to Julia Ann Phillips. He left two sons and a daughter of which only my grandfather Robert Taylor Boatman lived to maturity.

John died in 1862 near Corinth, MS. He is buried in his hometown of Oakdale, IL

Although there are three places of death listed for Joseph: James Plantation, Perkins Plantation and Young's Point…all in Louisiana, all are in close proximity to each other. After reading the military reports, I believe that Joseph W. Vinyard most likely died of dysentery at a field hospital at James Plantation on May 15th, 1863. Some soldier's graves were moved to the National Cemeteries in Louisiana and Mississippi but I have never been able to find one for Joseph W. Vinyard. He was probably buried in an unmarked grave in Louisiana. Joseph W. Vinyard was born in Greene Co., IL about 1830, son of William and Nancy Quigley Vinyard. He married Amanda Emiline Wood in 1850, 3 known children.

Reverend William K. Johnson of Princeton MO was a Corporal. Later of the 22 US Veterans Reserves. Wounded at Champion’s Hill in April 1863.
