I got this name from the diaries of William fortune, who is my ancestor. From the best that I can tell from his diaries, Capt. Hopkins was the commanding officer of the 44th.

Henry P. Jones was a private under Capt. Hopkins. He enlisted 9 Aug 1864 in Kingston, Caldwell County, Missouri and mustered into service on 30 Aug 1864 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. On 15 Aug 1865, Henry was mustered out at Benton Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. Henry was the son of Hercules and Elizabeth (nee Robinson) Jones. He was born on 31 Oct 1847 in Clinton County, Illinois and died on 21 Apr 1924 in Kansas.

Is my 3rd Great Grandfather.

Enlisted 1864, Princeton, MO. Mustered out, St. Louis, MO, March 1865. Gunshot wound to the lower jaw during Battle of Franklin. Died in Missouri in 1926.

Died May 31, 1865 of yellow fever in a POW camp in Montgomery AL. Buried at Nat'l Cemetery in Marietta, GA. Looking for place of capture, and why sent to Marietta for burial.

Farmed near Milan Missouri in Sullivan County.

Captured at the Battle of Franklin Tennessee by the Confederate Army at the Smokehouse, Carter House. Died while in custody of Confederate Army on his way to Andersonville prison.

I have his enlistment and discharge papers. Also, I have a photograph of him taken in a studio in 1904, but would really like to find an image of this group, or ideally, of him in uniform during the war.

Fought for the Union in Co. G. Rank unknown. In the 1960s, two graverobbers attempted to dig him up to steal his military medals (he was buried in full military regalia). They dug up the wrong grave (thinking the headstone was at the foot). They were caught in the act and sent to prison.

Eli served in 1864 and 1865 in Co.G, 44th Missouri Infantry. He was the son of Reuben Lawlis who served in 87th Missouri Militia. Eli farmed near St. Joseph, MO.
