Lorenzo was my great-great-grandfather, Edward J. Brown''''''''s brother. Lorenzo mustered in August 18, 1863, at Camp Tod, Columbus, Ohio, for six months service. However, Lorenzo didn''t make it, he died November 24, 1863 at a hospital in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, at the age of 29. Lorenzo was on guard duty November 1, 1863, at Poplar Plains, Kentucky. He took ill during the night, was sent to a hospital by ambulance. The physcian named his disease ''pneumonia''. Upon his death, two of his comrades, assisted in raising money to defray the funeral expenses, and was sent home to his father for burial. In a letter (1935) written to the govenment, searching for his records, by Lorenzo''''s nephew: ''''This man, I mean was a cripple, he refused to stay home when they came hunting for soldiers. So his Captain or the Captain of these men who came around, got off his horse and gave it to Lorenzo D. Brown to ride.''''
