184th Pennsylvania Infantry

Died as a prisoner on 15 Oct 1864 at Andersonville, GA. Sameul was 1 of 50 men of the 184th and 1 of 1670 from Pennsylvania to die at Andersonville.

David was my great great grandfather.Born in 1836 in Bedford County PA, he grew up into a large farming family. David had four brothers(one died at an early age) and five sisters. On June 15,1858 he married Catherine A Hetrick.At that time both were from Friend's Cove.Together they lived in Rainsburg Bedford County PA and had two sons, Charles Edward born in 1859 and Simon Lincoln born in 1861. On May 12,1864 David enlisted as a Corporal in Company A of the 184th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry.His unit saw action at Totopotomoy Creek, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and Jerusalem Plank Road.Two of David's brothers also fought in the Civil War.George Washington Stuckey was in Company F of the 107th Pennsylvania Infantry and William Henry Stuckey was in Company D of the 101st Pennsylvania Infantry. On June 22,1864 David was captured at Petersburg VA (Estimated Day) and taken as a prisoner of war to Andersonville Prison in Georgia.He remained there until his death on November 18,1864.Cause of death is listed as scorbutus.David is buried at the Andersonville National Cemetery (Section H Site 12081).

Israel was mustered in a private on May 12, 1864 and mustered out as a seargent. He was captured and sent to Andersonville in which he survived. He was then moved to Florence Stockade, South Carolina and died there Nov 10, 1864. He is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in Florence National Cemetery.

Alexander T. Barnes was born on January 25, 1839 in York County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in Co. C, 16th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers on May 20, 1861, serving until July 27, 1861 as a Color Corporal. His second enlistment was in Co. I, 26th Pennsylvania Militia Regiment on June 6, 1863, serving until July 30, 1863 as a 2nd Lieutenant. His last enlistment was in Co. G, 184th Pennsylvania Volunteer as a 1st Sergeant on March 18, 1864. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on June 26, 1865 and mustered out July 14, 1865 near Washington, D.C. He died on July 16, 1910 in Warren County, North Carolina.

Birth: Oct. 2, 1832 New Berlin Union County Pennsylvania, USA Death: Jul. 2, 1908 Benfer Snyder County Pennsylvania, USA A shoemaker by profession, John Getz served in the Union Army during the Civil War from 27 Aug [mustered in 7 Sep] 1864 - 2 Jun 1865 as a Private in, Co. I, 184th Pennsylvania Vol. Inf. which was part of the 1st Bde, 1st Div, II Corps, Army of the Potomac. As such, he saw action at the Siege of Petersburg, VA and the breakout and pursuit of the Army of Northern Virginia with actions at Saylor's Creek and Appomattox. He survived the war and returned home to ply his trade. He was buried 9 Jul 1908
