He enlisted at Camp Pickens, Anderson District, SC on 20 Jul 1861. He was wounded at Manassas on 29 Apr 1862 and was in and out of the hospital Jun 1863 - Dec 1864. His final date was 9 Apr 1865.

James Westmoreland (Wes) Grant and his younger brother, Willis, enlisted in the Confederate War effort in Pickens SC. Wes was born in 1824, Willis in 1827. Willis survived the war. Wes (a corporal) was wounded in Virginia in 1864. He made it back to Pickens, SC, and died on August 5, 1864 of his wounds. His youngest daughter, Rebecca, was born April 18, 1862, soon after he entered the army. Our family assumes that he never saw her until he made his way back from Virginia. He is buried at Mt. Bethel Cemetery in Pickens, SC.

Looking for more information about my GreatGrandfather, Henry Marion Whitmire. He entered the Confederate Army as a Pvt and left as a Cpl. I have information about the pardon awarded him by President Jackson. In one of the battles he was wounded and detained at a field hospital. Since no one knew where he was, he was listed as AWOL. My grandfather remembers the scars from his woulds, but said his father did not talk about the war much as many vets still today. I know there are records for this glitch in his service. I wish I knew where I could get them today. In the late 1960's, I obtained the records for a high school project and gave them to my grandfather. He was so proud. I do not know where those records are today and would like to acquire them for my family. Any help would be wonderful. I am collecting this information for my grandchildren so their contribution will be remembered for years to come. Thanks in advance for contributions of information to this family project.

John Cannon Cromer enlisted in the spring of 1861 and was discharged on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse, VA. He died on November 11, 1928.

Enlisted as a Private on 7 May 1862 at the age of 23. Wounded at Lookout Valley, TN on 28 October 1863. Wounded in the right hand (two fingers later amputated) on 11 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA. Surrendered on 9 April 1865 at Appommatox Court House, VA.

I would appreciate any information on Private Luke H. Taylor. Does a Regimental History of the 2nd South Carolina Rifles exist?

Robert Carter Clayton was from Pickens Coutyhouse SC. He enlisted in 1861 in the 2nd SC Rifles. He trained at Charleston, SC and fought with the regiment till the end of the war. 2nd SC rifles were part of Longstreet's Corp. Brother was killed at Gaines Mill member of Pickens Sharpshooters.

H.M.Fortner and his brother W.A. Fortner voluntered with Co. H 2nd South Carolina Rifle Regiment. This Co. was organized during the spring of 1862 using the 5th SC Battalion Rifles as its nucleus. Assigned to Gen. Jenkins and Brattons Brigade. Participated in the Seven Days Battles,Second Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredricksburg. Had engagements at Suffolk and D.H. Hill, NC. Saw action at The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. W.A. Fortner was discharged 1863 due to heart diesease (which still runs heavily in the Fortner family today). H.M. Fortner was discharged at Appomattox. This info. was for my wifes/mothers side The Fortner Family.

Bailus Hendricks is the name used in the list of U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865 on Ancestry.com He was born ca 1834 Pickens County, SC and is listed in that county's 1850 and 1860 census.

My GrGr Grandfather, Warren A. Boyd b 2 June 1828 Pickens C.H. To Robert and Rachel Boyd. Enlisted 1861 in Orrs rifles as Cpl in , 1862 this regiment was combined with the 5th infantry and became the 2nd SC regiment of rifles. Early in 1862 Warren was promoted to 2nd Lt. later that same year he was promoted to 1st Lt. He served with both Co. B and Co. K throughout the war and is listed in the rosters as present and paroled at Appomatox. He left his wife and children in Pickens but was fortunate enough to return to them after the war, to face the challenges of reconstruction and family life in post war Pickens South Carolina. After his wife'Armindas death in 1894 Warren remarried to Mary Adkins and remained in Pickens his whole life serving his community for a time as county coroner. Warren Died December 7, 1911. and is buried in The Secona Baptist church cemetery.

Pvt. Reuben Mitchell enlisted in Co. K, 2nd Regiment, South Carolina Rifles in the Pickens District of South Carolina in March, 1862. Second Corporal Reuben Mitchell was promoted from 4th to 3rd 'Corpl.' on 1 March 1863. Promoted from '3 corpl' 18 April 1863. June, 1863, reported 'absent, missing from a scout to Suffolk (Virginia).' July & August, 1863: '...reported killed in Scout near Suffolk about 27 June 1863.' Widow, Nancy, stated 'killed near Blackwater, Virginia, on the 10th day of June, 1863.' A Treasury Dept. record further states he allegedy died in the hospital 10 June, 1863. These above records are from his official Confederate Service Record. However, According to the Book, Roll of the Dead, South Carolina Troops, Confederate States Service, Cpl. Mitchell was 'hung by enemy near Suffolk, 27 June '63.' No record of his burial has been found. Sources: Official Confederate Service Record and, ROLL OF THE DEAD.
