I have records that Barnard Cooter enlisted in Greene County, TN and died of pneumonia in Louisville, KY where he was stationed.

Samuel Reed is my great-great-great uncle. He rode with the greatest General of the Civil War, Nathan Bedford Forrest.

I found a grave stone in the Bradford TN (old Baker) cemetery. AC Taylor's stone doesn't have a date of Birth nor death, yet his wife's stone is nearby. On the stone it reads: Co. 1, 3rd TN CSA CAV. Please confirm and post in the right place. Can you tell me when and how he died. I have his birth as abt. 1840 in TN (probably Bradford area). I suspect his real name was Andrus, married to Clara / Clarissa.

James was born in Weakley Co. Tenn. He enlisted at Randolph, Tipton Co. Tenn. 4 May 1861. Capt P.T. Allin's Co. Sharpshooters of General Preston Smiths Brigade. On Nov 1862, detached duty to the Ordinance Dept. Remarks on last CMR Promoted to Capt. / Co A McDonald's Battn: Tenn Cav. Husband of our 2nd cousin 3 x removed. Grandson of Hannah Thomas 1782-1852

Based on Compiled Service Record. Although from Blount County, AL, after enlisting in Gadsden,AL on 16 Aug 1861, he mustered in to Forest's 3rd at Camp Forest on 6 Oct 1861. Name sometimes appears as Algood.

Robert was captured on Sept 24, 1864 at Athens, AL and was confined in the Confederate prison at Cahaba, AL. In April 1865 he was sent to a neutral parole camp near Vicksburg, MS. On April 24, he and almost 2,000 other recentrly released Union prisoners-of-war were crowded aboard the Mississippi steamboat Sultana for shipment home. At 2:00 AM on April 27, 1865 when the Sultana was seven miles above Memphis, TN, the boilers exploded. Almost 1,200 people died. Sergeant Turner was rescued by the steamboat Pocahontas and taken to Washington Hospital in Memphis. He reported to Camp Chase, near Columbus, OH on May 3, 1865 and was eventually mustered out of the service. In her quest for a Widow's Pension, his wife, Abigail Williams Turner, inclueded the following: "Late Asst. Surg. (of the 3rd TN Cav) swears that he was blowed up on Steamer Sultana Apr. 27th, 1865, rescued from the wreck, paroled & made his way to his home in Meigs Col, Tenn. in very bad health, & died July 24th, 1865 from the effects of Chronic Diarrhea (dysentery), contracted in the servie & from the effects of being blown up on said steamer." Robert was my Great Great Grandfather. He is buried in Corinth Cemetery in Meigs Co., TN

Walter was born in Grenada, Grenada County Mississippi 12 Dec 1845. He has 2 cards in his archival file. No date of enlistment is given. He is listed on the 1860 census as 14 years old. He probably enlisted when he turned 17 in 1863. He rode with Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. The unit surrendered at Citronelle, Ala. 4 May 1865 and paroled at Gainsville, Ala. 11 May 1865. The 3rd was also known as the 18th and 26th Battalion as well as Blanch's and McDonald's Battalion. He died 7 Apr 1928 and is buried in Rockville Centre, Nassau County. NY.
