Daniel was the son of Alexander Stewart and Nancy McIntire. He entered the Confederate service when the call was made for volunteers, enlisting in Company B, Ninth Tennessee cavalry. His company, or a part of it, was captured, he among the rest, just as they were going to the front, the capture taking place near Wayland Springs, Tennessee. He was transported to Rock Island, Illinois, where he was imprisoned and held till March 6, 1865, being exchanged at that date, and paroled for sixty days.

George Washington Whitten was the son of George and Elizabeth Cox Whitten natives of South Carolina who moved to Wayne County Tn in 1829. He was born Jan 9,1825,in Lauderdale co,Al. He died Jan 6,1908 and is buried in Whitten Crossroads Cemetery Wayne County,Tn.

Captured during the war. Afterwards he became a circuit court judge in Alabama.

'Morgen's Men'. Died of wounds suffered in the Ohio raid. James Bloodworth enlisted 1 Sep 1862 from Sumner County. He was badly wounded on the Ohio raid (his leg was shot off). He was captured and taken to Kentucky near Bowling Green, where he died in the hospital under the care of a caring nurse whose name was Mattie Miller. He died in Cynthiana, Kentucky on 2 July 1863 in defense of states' rights. The inscription on his tomb is as follows: 'Their names shall never be forgot, While fame here records. Keep and Dearly guard this hallowed spot Where valor proudly stays.' Erected 27 May 1869 by the Cynthiana, KY Confederate Memorial Inscription Company in memory of the Confederate dead who fell in defense of Constitutional liberty.

Capt. Kirkpatrick led the 110 men who escaped across the Ohio River at Buffington's Island, Ohio in the Morgan's great raid in the summer of 1863.

James was born 18 Dec 1827 in Smith County Tennessee. In 1860 he is 38 and in Smith County with the Post Office being at Dixon Springs. My research has taken me to the Tennessee State Library and Archives arriving at the Reference Desk. I had found that James had served in Co F 9th Cavalry [Ward's]. James had been drawing a Confederate Pension and when he died on 20 Dec 1903 his wife Lucy F Cartwell [ he had married a cousin] also filed for and received a pension # W429. As of this posting I have not received the copy of her pension. He had a brother who was in Co. G of the 9th and believe James was with General John Morgan in the Kentucky Campaign and in his raid into Ohio and Indiana. I have not found his archival records. James died 20 Dec 1903 and is buried at the Dixon Springs Cem. Smith County, Tenn.

John has three cards in his military file. He enlisted in Smith Co. Tenn. on 1 Sept.1862. Enlisted by C.E.Cossitt for three years. He was abt 23 years old. His unit was reorganized several times. Morgan's Brigade and Divison. Note: Most of these men were captured on General Morgan's expedition into Ohio in 1863. John survived the war.

His diary indicates in July 1862 he was with Wheeler of John Hunt Morgans Cavalry. Then a regiment from Sumner Tenessee was formung under John W. Wiseman Company A which became Company G. of the new regiment. Then James Bennett became the Colonl of the new Regement. It was called Benett's Regiment or 9ty Tennessee Calvery of Morgan's Command. He was with Hunt until his death.

Howell was born 24 Oct 1845 in Hartsville, Trousdale County, Tenn. He has 3 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 1 Sept 1862 at Hartsville in the 3rd Regiment, Morgans Brigade. [Col. W. W. Ward's] Enlisted by Col J. D. Bennett for 3 years. He is paid $24 for the use of his horse. He was appointed to the rank of 5th Sgt 1 Nov. 1862. The roster for this unit named 1322 men. He saw action in the Kentucky Campaign and rode with General Morgan into Ohio and Indiana. He died 3 Dec 1931 at Kotta, Lyon County, Kentucky and is buried at the Hartsville Cemetery in his hometown. We are related by a 2nd marriage to a distant cousin.

He married Hannah Parrish, 22 Aug 1860 in Macon Co, Tn, daughter of William Parrish and Sarah Alsup. She was born 07 Jun 1847 in Sumner Co, Tn and died 27 Sep 1932 in Simpson Co, Ky. Sept 1,1862 - Tennesseans in the Civil War - Vol 1 pg 74 - Wislon Pope Perry enlisted in Co. H, 9th Tennessee Cavalry CSA at Hartsville Tn - Co. H 9th Tn Cavalry, C.S.A. organized 1 Sept 1861 at Hartsville Tn - Men from Sumner, Trousdale and Wilson Counties. - Consolidated with Company E to form 2nd Co. G in Dec 1862. Married Hannah Parrish on 22 August 1860 in Macon CO, Tn. Headquarters, Camp David C Walker # 640, U C V, Franklin, Ky, 2 April 1898 - R. P. Finn Commander - Wilson Baird 1st Lieut - Dr. J. W. Neely Surgeon - Wm Swan Sec & Treas - Camp was called to order by Commander R. P. Finn, then the minutes of the last meeting held January 1st were read & approved. A resolution was offered by A. W. Harwell and carried offering the services of Camp Walker to the government in case of War with Spain. Capt. R. P. Finn was instructed to notify President McKinnley & Gov. Bradley of the same. Wilson P. Perry was rec'd as a member of the Camp.
