18th Tennessee Infantry

John Curd (later MD) was in Med. School in Nashville at the beginning of the war. He enlisted at Murfreesboro during the battle in Co. F,45th Tn. Inf. He later gravitated to the field hospital and by November 1863 was transferred to 18th Reg. Hosp. as Hospital Steward. He finished the end of the war as Asst. Surgeon.

I have just rediscovered the funeral notice from my great-grandfather. I know that he served in the 18th TN regiment CSA but do not know much more other than, 'He was a brave and true Confederate soldier, a good citizen, scrupulously honest and fair in his dealings with mankind...' He spent time in Jesup, GA and died in Murfreesboro, TN. His date of birth and death were not stated. My grandmother Frank Hoskins Guidry was born in the late 1890's (she would never state her true birthdate) and died in 1977. She shared with me that her father was much older than her mother. Of course, I wish I had recorded the stories and information she shared with me. We were really close.-FM

James died of a gunshot wound while a POW on 14 March 1862. He is buried at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

ENLISTED 20 OCT. 1862, MURFREESBORO, TENN. BY COL COOK FOR 3 YRS OR DURATION OF WAR. ENTERED THOMASTON POST HOSPITAL, BARNESVILLE GA. ON 23 JUNE 1864, AND DIED OF DYSENERY ON 26 JUNE 1864. HE LEFT A WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN WHO NEVER KNEW WHERE HE WAS. HE IS BURIED IN GREENWOOD CEMETERY, OLD SOLDIERS SECTION, BARNESVILLE GA. AND UNTIL THE SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETRANS POST #1449 FOUND HIM, HE HAD THE WRONG NAME ON HIS CSA HEADSTONE. IT HAS BEEN CORRECTED AS OF DECEMBER 2005. MAY HE REST IN PEACE NOW.

Pleasant enlisted with his brother, Thomas. Pleasant was killed during the war in Bowling Green, KY.

Thomas is my Great-Great-Grandfather. He was with the 18th Infantry from Camp Trousdale, captured at Ft Donelson, and fought at Murfreesboro in the battle of Stone River.

a.k.a Moses D Horton, M D Horton. He served at the battle for Ft Donelson and the battle of Tullahoma.

James K. Polk Marbury was with Co. F., 18th Tenn. Confederate Inf. Married Harriet Harris. Is listed as applying for stay at Confederate Veterans Hospital in Nashville. May have died there ca. 1914. Applied for a pension in 1910. Neither he nor his family owned slaves.

Jessie Warren Dozier was my gg uncle

Hardy was my great-great grandfather. He was wounded in the neck at Murfreesboro, captured prisoner at Stone's River and was sent to prisoner of war camp at Camp Morton, Indiana. Some records have his last name as 'McNeil' or 'McNeill.'

Thomas G. Curlee was my great great grandfather from Cannon County, TN. He served as a captain in Co. H of the 18th Tennessee Infantry (CSA). He was taken prisoner in the battle of Ft. Donelson, was later exchanged, then was wounded at the Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, TN.

This was a great uncle on my mother's side of the family

This man's grave is located in a small cemetary located on Underwood Road in the Gladeville community of Wilson County.He was born on Dec 25th,1836 and died on Dec 20th 1901. Many of his descendants still reside in the Gladeville area.

Confederate Service records show G.R. Gwynn serving as a Cpl in K Company, 18th Tennessee Infantry from 17 Aug 1861 to 01 Nov 1861 and was dischagred due to 'phthisis pulmonalis'.

Simon was my GG Grandfather and was born in Tennessee in 1839. He enlisted 4 October 1862 at McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee.
