33rd Tennessee Infantry

Milton was with the Tennessee 33rd. He fought under Polk during Shiloh.

I do not know what company he served in.

My father was Austin C McCoy. His mother was Ida Lee Hickman McCoy of Puxico MO. Her father was T. S. Hickman ,CO A, 33rd Tenn Vol Inf CSA Obion Station Tenn. His brother was Capt Henry Hickman

Frances M. Pankey enlisted 9 Sept. 1861 at Camp Brown by Lt. Spenes for 12 months. No other data has been found.

JOHN P. STRIBLING WAS MY MATERNAL 3RD GREAT UNCLE. HE LIVED TO BE OVER 100 YEARS OLD. HE LIVED IN MADISON COUNTY, TENNESSEE AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH. HIS BROTHER WAS R.F.STRIBLING, WHO WAS ALSO IN THE CSA IN THE 14th (NEELY'S) TENNESSEE CAVALRY REGIMENT. R.F STRIBLING WAS MY 3RD GREAT GRANDFATHER, AND HE DIED BEFORE 1870 AS A RESULT OF THE WAR. HE NEVER COMPLETELY RECOVERED FROM SICKNESS IN THE WAR. HE TRAVELED TO DRIER, WARMER PLACES TO TRY TO GET HIS LUNGS WELL, BUT NEVER DID.

Martin survived the war and is buried in the Wynn/Bailey cemetary in New Concord KY.

Survived war. Died while my Greatgrandfather was a young child. Wife married Mr. Parker, Hazel, Ky.

This is my great great grandfather. Enlisted for one year on 9 September 1861 at Union City, TN. Fought at the Battle of Shiloh, was wounded, and was discharged 15 July 1862 at Tupelo, MS.

Would like any and all information on this man. He was from Dyer County TN (Dyersburg, TN). He was the son of John S.and Martha McGinnis -- his brother John M McGinnis entered into the 4th TN infantry (place name in search). He entered as a private and a musician, Co. D, 33rd Tennessee Infantry -- enlisting on 12 Sep 1861. During war he was captured twice: The Union records of prisoners of war show him captured at Stones River, Feb 10, 186? -- confined at Camp Morton, Indiana and exchanged at City Point, Viriginia, on April 12 1863. But, other records of Camp Morton show him captured at Murfeesboro, Tennessee on 5 January 1863 and sent to City Point, Virginia for exchange on 6 April 1863. According to the War Department, he was on the muster rolls for at least March and April 1864. That is the last roll on file. After the war James went to Columbia, LA -- where he became a superintendent of Public Education and later Mayor of Columbia. He died 10 May, 1889 in Columbia, LA and buried in Dyersburg, TN.

He was wounded at Perryville and captured at Mobile. Taken prisoner at Camp Chase, Ohio and spent 4 months there. Served as an orderly sargeant.

Lucien is 15 years old. He joined for duty in Union City 7 Oct. 1861 for 1 year. He served three years and is discharged 5 Dec. 1864. He is with the 33 Tenn Inf. Capt Wade H. Frost's Comapny. Roll dated at Dothen Ga. The reason for discharge is not given.

Martin is my 3x great grandfather. He is the son of John Shikle. His mother is unknown. Martin was born in 19 Apr 1821 in Lawrence Co., AL. He died 12 Dec 1875 in Greene County, AR. He first married Elizabeth Horton on 24 Apr 1844 in Weakley Co., TN. (She's my 3x great grandmother). They had 2 daughters - Mary Alice Frances 'Fanny' and Margaret. He married second wife, Mary M. George on 8 May 1856 in Fulton Co., KY. They had 2 sons - William and Samuel. Martin and his father are found on the 1830 Census in Lawrence Co., AL. He was next found on the 1860 Census in Obion Co., TN with his wife Elizabeth and 2 daughters. In 1866, he became an ordained Methodist minister.

J. W. Cathey, (James White Cathey), private Company E, 33 Regiment Tennessee Infantry. He was severely wounded at Mufreesboro, Tenn., Dec. 31, 1862 (Battle of Stones River or Second Battle of Murfreesboro) and also wounded at the Battle of Resaca, May 14, 1864. He was a patient at Ladies Hospital, Montgomery Alabama on Nov.,15,1864 and retired to Invalid Corps, Provisional Army Confederate States Nov. 19, 1864. He was admitted to Way Hospital, Meridian, Miss., on Jan. 18, and again on March 17, 1865 because of wounds. He was living in Obion Co. when he enlisted in October 1861 near Union City, Tennessee. Several months after enlisting he fought in the battles at Shiloh and Perryville before being wounded at Murfreesboro. After recovering, he fought at the battles of Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge before being woulded again at Resaca at the begining of the Atlanta campaign. He moved to Texas about 1876 with his family and then to Oklahoma where he died near Oklahoma City in 1899.

James J Glenn was 26 years old from Williamson County Tenn. He enlisted in Capt T R Hutchinson's Co on 28 Nov 1862 in Troy. this became Co E 33rd Tenn. Infantry. It and several other Regiments were consolidated in the latter part of the war. He saw service until the surrender and parole at Greensboro, NC on 1 May 1865. He is the step son of the husband of my 3rd cousin 5x removed on my Thomas Line. Deo Vindice

Buried in Morgan cemetary, Palmersville TN (Weakley county)

Born 1829 in Weakley Co., Tennessee. Enlisted as a Private at Union City, Obion Co., Tennessee on 3 Dec 1861. Promoted to 4th Sergeant on 10 April 1862. Killed in action at the Battle of Murfreesboro on 31 Dec 1862.

Also there was a James L Mizell that served in the same company and 33rd inf.

W.R. Burnham enlisted in the 33rd TN. Infantry Co. I at Union City, TN. in 1861. He was 29 years old. He enlisted as a private. He participated in all the battles the 33rd was engaged until the unit surrendered in N.C. in 1865. By the end of the war he had been promoted to 2nd Lt. He returned to West TN. after the war and settled in Lauderdale Co. He married and had twin sons. He was my Gr., Gr,. Gr. Grandfather.

James Burress enlisted in Co. I, 33rd Reg, Tennessee Infantry on December 5, 1861 at Camp Brown. He died of wounds on April 5, 1862 in a hospital in Macom, MS.
