Nathaniel Henry Clay Elliott was my 3rd Great Uncle, born 2 Aug 1843 in Grundy County, Tennessee and Enlisted 8 May 1861 at the age of 18. and was a member of Company A, Turney's 1st Tennessee Regiment. The 1st fought at Gettysburg and was in Pickett's Charge. He was later wounded at the Battle of The Wilderness, shot in the abdomen on 5 May 1864 and recuperated in the Chimborazo Hospital No. 3 in Richmond, VA. He applied for a Clerkship in the War Department as an Auditor. After the war he moved to Virginia and later to Haskell, Texas where he died 30 May 1912.

Benjamin D. Spyker was born about 1835 in Franklin County, Tennessee. He was enlisted in Company C of the 1st Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers by Capt. M. Turney on April 27, 1861 at Winchester, TN. He was 26 year old at the time. Benjamin Spyker was 5'8' high with blue eyes, light complexion, and dark hair. He was a harness maker by trade. Benjamin D. Spyker is presumably the son of David Spyker and Elizabeth McCarroll Spyker and that his parents and elder siblings moved to Tennessee from Virginia in the 1830s. One of Benjamin's elder siblings would have been Leonidas Pendleton Spyker, born in Abingdon, Virginia on April 10, 1815. L.P. Spyker was a large plantation owner in Bossier and Morehouse Parishes of Louisiana in the 1840s - 1860s. Another brother would have been David Spyker born abt 1830, a medical doctor who died in Louisiana at approximately 30 years of age.

Served 1 year, and did not re-inlist. Later served in 'Forrest's Escort Company,' cavalry. Shot at Chickamauga, 9/19/63, and died in hospital in Jacksonville, AL 11/24/63.

Son of William Daniel Land & Delaney Baird. Enlisted on 4/27/1861 as a Private into "H" Co. Tennessee 1st Infantry, He was captured at Gettysburg on 7/3/1863. He was confined at Fort Deleware until exchanged on 2/27 /1865.

Wounded and captured July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg. Remained a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware for duration of war. Paroled at Salisbury, NC on May 2, 1865. Returned home to Lincoln Co, TN and died in 1907
