Lt. Col. White is my great grandfather. He assumed command of the 14th after Col Hodges died in combat. Col. White was with Gen Pickett and Gen. Armisted at Gettisburg and the Angle. Col. White was wounded three times and was carried back to the Confederate lines to survive the war. He was a member of the VA Legislature, voted against succession but enlisted when VA decided to seceed. I have a photo and will provide later if needed.

Mustered into Paineville Rifles in Amelia, VA, April 1861 and discharged in July, 1862 under terms of the Conscription Act. Was sick the previous winter (hospitalized in Petersburg). No further information after discharge, but died before 1870 census.

James was from Fluvanna County Virginia and was a drummer boy only 12 years old!

Joseph reenlisted in Oct 1864 in the 14th. He was elected LT & by his account was elevated to Captain after the Battle of Dinwiddie Court House. There is no known transcribed verification of this elevation in rank which is probably due to the collapse of the Richmond Gov. just days after the above mentioned battle.

On 29 June 1889, James Nathaniel Woltz applied for disability from the Federal Government having been wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill, Henrico County, Virginia on 1 July 1862. A shell exploded fracturing the tibia in the left leg below the knee. Since incurring the wound he had not been able to perform physical labor due to pieces of bone being discharged from the wound from time to time. The leg also had varicose veins.

John was sick and hospitalized a lot during the war. His war pension application stated that he had bronchial trouble and was 'completely disabled to labor.' He was my Great-Great Grandfather, and he died on February 27, 1905. He is buried at New Bethel Baptist Church, Epsom, NC (Franklin County).

Born 1839 in Pittsylvania County. Enlisted at Meadsville, Halifax Co. on 24 April 1861. Served throughout war.

Clayton Mosley Guerrant is my great x3 grandfather. He enlisted on April 29, 1861 in Halifax County, Va. He was captured at the Battle of Five Forks, and was sent to Point Lookout, Md as a POW. He was released on June 27,1865.

Enrolled for active service on May 14, 1861 in South Boston, VA. Paroled at Appomattox April 9, 1865. One of only 49 men and 7 officers present at the surrender.

William survived the war, and I have copies of his widow's application for a pension after his death in 1910. It lists him as a Private in Company K, which is consistent with the company being formed mostly from Halifax County VA (His home) and an application for a headstone for his unmarked grave later.

John A. Whitt enlisted in Company K, 14th Virginia Infantry on 14 May 1861. He survived the War.
