Born - Caroline County, VA William was wounded during battle of Mechanicsville June 26, 1862 but returned quickly to duty and was later moved to Regimental Quartermaster Department as a teamster.

Killed in action at Gettysburg July 3, 1863 (Pickett's charge). Left widow Lucy Ann. Burial unknown.

Annette Taylor gave me this info, but I cannot find a roster of Names. He is supposed to have fought at 1st Manassas & was wounded, & at 2nd Gettysburg & was wounded again. He was supposed to be a part of Walker''s Brigade. I''m trying to verify this info. Any assistance you can give is most welcome.

Born about 1839 in Essex Co. Virginia to William Weeden Dishmen (b. 1813 in Essex Co. Virginia) and Mary Dishman (b. about 1814 in Virginia). Buried 'New Cemetery' located at Stormont-Cooks corner,just outside of Saluda Courthouse Va.

Henry Elmore enlisted on 3/31/1862 as a Private. On 3/31/1862 he mustered into 'K' Co. VA 55th Infantry. He deserted on 6/7/1863 at Richmond, VA Hospital. April 1862- he was in the hospital from April 15 May 1862- he was apprehended at his house April 4, 1862- absent without leave May/June 1862 - he was absent from Fort Lowery Jan/Feb 1863 - absent without leave Mar/Apr 1863 - present in confinement since 1863 June 1863 sick in hospital - 1st Division General Hospital, Camp Winder, Richmond, VA

Transferred to Old Capitol Prison Washington D.C. 23 July 1863. Transferred to Point Lookout Maryland 8 August 1863. Paroled and exchanged from Point Lookout Maryland 3 March 1864. Enlisted March 25th, 1862 at White Stone in Lancaster County, Lt. William Oliver enlisted him. Served until captured at Gettysburg and held at Fort Delaware as prisoner of war until 1864.

Ellis was the son of Dr.John James Gravatt who was the Chief Surgon who was in charge of Wayside Hospital in Richmond ,Va during the Civil war.

Henry enlisted in Company M on 13 March 1863. He fought at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Falling Waters (captured). After a prisoner exchange, Henry returned to Company M. He was wounded at Weldon Railroad 21 August 1864. He was captured during the battle of Farmville. Signed Oath of Allegiance 13 June 1865 at Lookout Point, Maryland.

My great grandfather Born in Spotsylvania, Va in 1841 Captured at Falling Water, Md Point Lookout Prison until the end of the war, released in Richmond Married to Martha C Bond of Orange County in 1866 Farmer 5 miles from Spotsylvania Courthouse on Livingston Manor Died in Spotsylvania 1916 The family still lives in Spotsylvania

Edward Hilldrup was my great-grandfather. His brother, Pvt. Richard Brown Hilldrup, served throughout the war in the same unit. Edward was wounded at the Seven Days and discharged (also had TB). Oddly enough, another Confederate who was to become another of my great grandfathers, Robert James Lamkin, was wounded at the same time.

Enlisted in Orange Co., VA in March 1862.

Benjamin W. Pritchett fought in all the engagements of the 55th Virginia excepting for Gettysburg. He was wounded at Chanclellorsville and didn't return until after Gettysburg. He survived the war and was one of few members of the 55th that surrendered at Appomattox. Benjamin returned to his farm which is located on the Spotslyvania Court House Battlefield after the war. He died there in 1918. He is buried somewhere on his farm, but to date we have been unable to locate his grave. Benjamin Pritchett was not a slave owner and enlisted just prior to the forced conscription in 1862. He received a Confederate pension from the State of Virginia due to the wounds he suffered at Chancellorsville.
