I would like to know any further information about Thomas Foster in the 61st Va Militia. I have a copy of a pension application from 1900 where he states that he was in the 61st but detached to the navy Department.....I cannot read the reason he put on the form. On this form, he made his Mark, which corroborates census records where states he cannot read nor write. Also have some records from Fold3.com that corroborate his age in 1860-61, when the unit was formed. Please feel free to contact me with additional info.
